Bioshock 2 System Requirements Released! (SecuROM act limit: 15)

It's a singleplayer game, it will be cracked in no time.

It's also GFWL which suffers from a big anti piracy security flaw ( basically it can be useless in some situations), but I won't go further into that as the dons with go after me with the hammer again :(.

A little bit dissapointed at the max spec requirements. Was hoping this game would be pushing better hardware. Seems kinda pointless buying all this expensive components when a lot of games don't even need all that power.
That's the fault of the consoles :(. The game needs to run on their pap gpu's.

I'm not 100% sure but I think Resident Evil 5 is the same - you have to login to GfWL before doing anything - all yo can do before that is run the system benchmark!

I have Resident Evil 5 and simply used an offline Live account. During account creation you can scroll down and click the link to only create an offline account.

Ha, someone even made a YouTube video for it.

And the fact it still uses the Unreal Engine 2.5 which is old. But I rather have that than my computer struggle to run the game as if its using the CryEngine 2 engine.

holy crap this game is just full of DRM.... even though I own it I might pirate it so I don't have to deal with all that crap...

Indeed... starting to wish i'd held off buying it and just pirated it. If they want to stick with using SecuROM then i'll stick with not buying it until such a time they remove it.

Notice how they only announced it a few days after it went on pre-order?

Hey guys,

As many of you are aware, yesterday Steam's pre-purchase program began and the specs for BioShock 2 were posted along with that announcement.

These specs were taken from the retail packaging of BioShock 2. And since bullet points on the back of the box don't always explain the full story, here is a little more detail about what that means.

BioShock 2 is using a standard Games for Windows Live activation system, much like other games you have played in the past. That doesn't mean you always have to be online to play or save the game - you can create an offline profile for the Single Player portion of the game (you just won't earn achievements and you can't play Multiplayer, of course.)

We are using SecuROM only as a disc check method for the retail copy of BioShock 2. That is it's only use.

I am now checking the final plans for BioShock 2's specifications for Steam - and I'll get you a more complete answer by the end of the week. I have also been compiling a feature that will help answer a host of questions about BioShock 2 on the PC, including a podcast and screenshots of the PC version, and that should be out within a few days as well.

I'm sorry for the confusion, and I hope to clear it up entirely for you soon.

Who knows tbh, this **** is getting stupid. Not only do we have to put up with GFWL (hurray for Microsoft trying to force themselves onto everything).

I like how the 3 layers of DRM won't stop anyone pirating the game, just **** off us paying customers. Why do they still bother with disk checks? Even my mum could bypass one of them.

Hell. getting a no-CD crack is something even people who refuse to pirate games do. Steam has always been enough DRM, so wtf is the point in including it on the Steam version.

They know that the versions available from tpb and the like will not have securom/ other drm.

They know that they are only hurting the legit customers.

We know that they just don't care one bit.

Also, buying it and downloading it via BT is still illegal, as you're uploading while you're downloading. If you can find it somewhere other than p2p, that would probably be a legal grey area.

I mean, they've long since abandoned the idea of "fair use", so buying games these days doesn't mean you actually own anything :p

I guess you could find something which just removed the securom - however I'd rather not install it in the first place.

15 activations is MUCH more reasonable. 3 was a joke

15 activations (currently listed as 5 on Steam) is being stubborn, not reasonable. With that many activations why even bother including the damn thing, all they get now is complaints about SecuROM messing up there system and people refusing to buy it on principle. 15 is enough to eventually cause problems when you've forgotten it exists and either way, will have absolutely 0 effect on piracy (except probably increasing it).

Yea but if they are going to include it, which was always going to be the case, I'd much rather have to install it 15 times before having to speak to some idiot on the phone rather than 3.

I didn't realise SucuRom was like Starforce though? I didn't have any problems with Bioshock 1, but if that's the case it is indeed abit homo.

SecuROM doesn't install drivers like StarForce does but it did used to install a Windows service, which is probably where most of the complaints came from.

It's all included in the game executable now (minus the license files and a shell extension, I noticed).

Unforunately Bioshock 2 uses GFWL, buyer beware if live in one the over 166 unsupported countries that "Games for Windows LIVE" will block from going online with BS2. Unless you know to lie when setting up a new LIVE ID.

GFWL stole my game

Does GFWL help prevent piracy or help create piracy?

The Internet was suppose to bring the world closer together, it should not be use to divide us. :(

I thought system specs would be a little higher than that.. don't get me wrong, Bioshock is still a good looking game; but you'd think the graphics would be improved by a significant amount after all this time.
