Bioshock - BORED

willhub, Fortress forever has recently been released which is a very good remake of TFC. Should keep you going until TF2 is out :D

i play 30 min of bioshock every so often. Ijust killed my first big daddy and tbh it easy ........very......very........easy he never got a touch on me, it took around 15ish shotgun shells into him and he was down. One question do they get harder later in the game or is that it? The thing with them is when they charge at you it so easy to step out the way and get 3-4 shotgun blasts on him.............please tell me it gets harder :( i couldnt wait for thisd game i thought the big daddies were gonna own me and a lot of planning was needed to take one down........but it was a big let down when i faced one.

They get harder as you make more progress.
I played on normal, got to the antidote bit, discovered a game glitch that wouldn't allow me to get any further, my last save point was miles back. So i decided to the game from scratch on hard, got to the same point with the same bug, not played it since. :(

I agree with many of you about the gameplay, looks amazing but it gets a bit repetitive.

I have a feeling cyrsis will be like that, power up the suit, rush in and kill everyone then go back to your hiding position and recover, move on and repeat.

Erm, right, this game is getting a tinsy winsy bit too boring now. It looks pretty good but the animation on the baddies is painful and the physics even worse! Plus, i can see why they shipped the opening level as the demo owing to the fact that the most impressive part of the game is the opening scene in the water after the crash. After that its just linear levels shooting baddies. Whats new?

Its not even thaaat pretty, really. The lighting is cool and the water looks good but most other bits are pretty mediocre.

At least when Call of Duty 2 came out it was just one huge operatic set peice that had you on the edge of your pants. Bioshock is one set piece (at the beginning) and then.......... straight forward shooting.

I play Medal of Honor Airborne last night and can honestly say that its combat is soooo much better and much more exciting. In fact.yes, thats it.... Bioshock isnt exciting. Its dull.

Im gonna go shoot some Nazis in the head whilst hiding behined a demolished Italian shack with nothing but a Thompson and a few grenads to save me.
Think those two games are chalk and cheese really - Bioshock is more of an RPG FPS, whereas MOHA is a straight on-the-rails shooter.

I think Bioshock was pretty good, maybe not as good as SS2, and a bit short, but worth the money I paid for it.
MOHA on the other hand, bit of a waste of money I think, it is far shorter than it should be, and the AI is dreadful (playing on expert, applies to both friend and foe).

But hey, we're all entitled to our opinions.

Scort.

i thought the hype for HL2 was far greater....that certainly lived up to it all too(well for most of us). bioshock started great but im near the end and tbh its a case of playing it just to finish it...heart really isnt in it anymore.
which is a shame as it started pretty well....it seems the end levels are less about gameplay and more about them ending the story.

Don't get me wrong, it's a good game. But it's no HL1, Doom 3, or UT2004. Personally it goes in the category as HL2 for me - a great game, let down by it's hype and linear gameplay.

OMG. Doom III was dire, HL2 is far FAR better! And how can a game be let down by its hype? It's not like hype affects the actual game is it.

Doom 3, pff.

I rented this for two days, thinking "I'll just complete it and give it back"

.... couldn't be bothered to do it, hacking gets tideous, doing quests for this Atlas dude, do it yourself I just want to kill little baby girls...

It plays like a film, except I don't want to play a film, I want to watch one.

then why did you get it? I dont get people who are criticising this game for not being something else! I dont see people going to play UT and complaining it doesn't have a decent plot with good character development

All personal opinion. I thought Doom 3 was amazing, far better than HL2.

My point about HL2 is that many people decided it would be amazing before it even hit the shelves.

I got it as a free rental (which the choice was limited). You expect a game to be a game... not a telling a story if you press a few buttons in the correct sequence.

im geniunely worried now when it comes to crysis. it has been MAJORLY hyped..perhaps with due cause? i dont know. graphically, perhaps...

but from farcrys single player experience (never completed it, trigens made it too hard) i will buy crysis cautiously.

i guess the fact that the environment and locations change a lot will keep you interested, i mean you cant get much more varied than a tropical island, frozen wasteland, aircraft carrier, zero-g spaceship...

and bioshock...big let down imo. everything was way too scripted, and it causes problems if you try to replay the game again, as you try to avoid a certain enemy, but the scene or dialogue wont happen as you havent correctly passed the trigger which you wouldve done playing for the first time.

the ending really, REALLY sucked as well.

edit: i mean hl2 was very scripted also, but it was done perfectly. i cannot really fault the hl2 single player experience, but looking at the steam scores for bioshock, getting straight 100%s? means it outscored hl2, and that is something that VERY few games can and will ever be able to do. no game should get a 100%, not even hl2 in that respect

Hl2 was garbage, i gave my copy away 1 week after buying it.
Everything about it bar the graphics sucked so hard it was untrue.

i guess you're not an fps person then

Far from it, i love them.

Far Cry.
Operation Flashpoint.
Doom.
AvP
FEAR.
Medal Of Honour
NOLF 1 and 2
Resistance fall of man.
Ghost Recon.
etc etc etc...................

Half life 2 was dull, with dip **** enemies and boring guns.
Now, the same can be said about most FPS's but none have so blatently claimed or acclaimed for not being so like HL2 was.
Plus, to top it all off, before it got interesting it was finished, i was all the time thinking "when does the exciting bits start?"
They never did.

you're in the minority, the general feeling about hl2 is that it is one of the best fps's out.

I detested hl1 and felt hl2 really didnt cut the mustard. The only two fps games i have ever completed and enjoyed were Max Payne and Deus Ex

Just decided to give bioshock a go. Got to the infirmery entrance bit and got bored so stopped playing. Really really fed up of this carbon copy fps mould at the moment. Walk through a corridor, the lights go dark, something flashes, a mob appears, hit it 10 times with a spanner before it dies. Plays exactly like Doom 3 with the same linear approach.

I really, really really do not 'get' the point of horror games. I dont watch horror films, i dont play horror games. I dont do either activities to be scared, i do it to be entertained.

Some people (incl. me) enjoy the feeling of excitement you get from being scared. Remember "Alone in the Dark"? That was around when I was about maybe 14 years old and it's still one of my favourite games!
