BIOSHOCK Dx10 AMAZING!!!

I read someone played it on 9800pro fine but the game says it needs pixel shader 3, does it have that?

Wont work on my X850XT, due to the lack of pixel shader 3.

Minimum specs for the game state 'DirectX 9.0c compliant video card', so I believe this rules out anything pre-X1*** series.

There is quite a big difference in the water effects between dx9 and dx10, you will notice it a lot more when they are moving. Also some of the reflection effects are missing in dx9 I think.
Biggest difference is the ripples, I'd rather have AA than them really, after all jaggies are always there, the water isn't. :)

Mind you I need to do some proper gameplay, I'm restarting single player in a bit so I'll post a Fraps benchmark result with 4xAA Supersampling after 30 mins or so of gameplay.

Last Fraps benchmark I ran for 30 mins gave me 112 average FPS with all maxed @ Dx10 with 16xAF 1440x900 will be interesting to see how it runs in Dx9 + AA.

My 2 Cents

I was lucky to get my pre-ordered Bioshock yesterday and it runs perfectly at max settings on my 22'' widescreen in its native resolution on Vista.

Very happy indeed. Please see specs below

Hi Jihad,

Are you forcing the 16AF with NVCP or nHancer or something else?.

Thanks.

can i just ask:
what performance are you 8800GTS 320MB users getting with everything maxed, at 1680x1050?? is it playable?

(playable: more than 30FPS will do for me)

I'm playing it through at that res with that card and it's fine.

Was going to play at a lower res with AA but to be honest once you're in the game and playing it you don't need AA .

No slow downs or problems so far using XP and DX9 by the way

No probs in XP - can't even get it to start in Vista!

See title...

Basically I built a new system as in sig and installed XP MCE2005 as usual. Everyhting worked great and I downloaded and ran Bioshock - it ran a treat, and I wrote here a few pages back how I thought it looked ace but wasn't too enamoured with the gameplay - and how I wasn't bothered about DX10 and Vista if DX9 games can run this smooth and look that good.

And then I got hold of a Vista Ultimate (x86) install disk off a mate, just to try it out. Shock horror!

Such a neat and simple install on to my RAID array in about 5 seconds ;)

I must admit I do actually really like Vista, and havent had any probs with anything I installed or ran or played. Oblivion, HL2:EP1, drivers, apps etc etc

Until I redownloaded the BioShock demo via Steam. And it wouldn't even start...

"bioshock.exe has stopped working. Windows is checking for a solution to the problem"

...and then nothing. Grrrrreeeeaaaaaat!

I'm using the recommended latest beta drivers (163.44), have done the Direct X August update, and tried the -dx9 command line switch. But nothing.

Dum de dum. Perhaps I was too quick jumping onto the Vista bandwagon after slagging it off 5 mins before, and Uncle Bill heard.

read that post on steam forum, its for 64x vista (there is a 32b post but the links dont work) basically you need to download the C++ from microsoft (32x version of course) firstly uninstall yours (in this case) and then find the 1st release and the SP1 update (for x32) and then the 3.5 .net fix and if you can be bothered try reinstalling your gpu drivers.

if this doesnt work then try deleting bioshock and redownloading it.

ps im sure you can find the x32 links without my help from there

i bought bioshock today. i installed it, dx9 works perfect but in dx10 its randomly freezes it did the same thing in the demo.

anyone got an idea what it could be?

i was thinking its a driver issue or a game bug with the 2600xt... because no body else is having this issue with other cards...

where does it freeze? same position?

ive had a few problems with it, crashes at the loading screens, as have most of the world lol.

i assume you have the august dx10 the 3.5 .net framework might also be of use to (if you dont have it) if you are on 64x vista you could get the x64 C++ redis.

also try runing it in windowed mode past the "problem" areas and the turn it back off again. thats what i did to solve my loading screen problem.

n00b Q, Does Vista give you new DX with Win Update or like XP do you need go get yourself ?.

I believe you have to do it your self, i run windows update quite a lot (cos i have nout else to do most the time lol) and i havent seen one on there and i have twice updated it (june/july & august)

Performance on my system seems less compared to some of you...
C2D 6300 @ 3.25Ghz
4GB ram @ 4-4-4-12
8800GTX at stock thanks to vista
Vista home prem x64
bioshock drivers

Running at 1920/1200 with all options on high but in places it feels like its droped down to 20fps :( Tbh it really doesn't look that good, I'd say it looks slightly better than Prey.Would have been nice if 2K added some more graphic options such as AA and AF  .I'm hoping UT3 will show us what this engine is capable off :) After all they did say last year it was running fine on a 7800GTX.

Thats strange I have almost the identical system to you, except v slightly slower cpu and ram timings (1%) and it runs fine  like 50fps easy most of the time, everythings maxed
