Bioshock - How to kill big Daddies

How hard are these buggers to kill? I have increased eve and even freezing the bloody things to the ground and pumping them full on the face with a shot gun doesn't do anything.

Rinse and repeat above numerous of times (went through 3 hypo's worth of eve) and only half the things health was gone.

I do think though, I've been a bit inefficient with ammo and keep running out. Maybe I will start again (not far into the game) and not use any ammo on the easy enemies. Any tips when it comes to the Big Daddies would be appreciated.

I'm assuming killing them is always the best option? When changing from first area to second, it warns me that I've not taken care of all the little girls and the game will be harder if I don't take them out.

Which is the better option? Saving or killing the little girls?

I used to just set up loads of crossbow traps then watch them run through it, well funny.

Saving is the best.

Shocking them works better.

Trap Bolts I found to be the best, although early on the game I used a Winter Blast -> Shotgun rinse/repeat.

You need to use armour piercing rounds against them, it gets easier later on as you will get better weapons such as the machine gun or the rocket launcher type thing. You can leave them alone and not bother them as they will only attack you if you get too close to the little sisters but its up to you. As far as saving the little sisters or killing them goes then its up to you as there are different paths to the game which will give you different endings.

By the end of the game it only took two traps to kill a daddy.

yeah dont have to kill them, and early on in the game its tuff cause of the crap weapons.best to just keep fighting them till you learn how they attack.always save the girls.

I wait until they go into an area where there are a lot of splicers etc and then throw an enrage orb at the splicers not him!. While the big daddy is dealing with them i'll be shocking him and blasting away with the shotgun or armour piercing rounds.

I should add this was earlier on, later in the game it becomes easier.

Heh, Get the Big Daddy control plasmid for some Daddy on Daddy action later on

Always found electro shock shotgun ammo to work well early on in the game, then rockets when available.

put a load of mines on one of those red flammable containers and then use telepathy to throw it at them

Theres two different endings that are exactly opposite and both pretty rubbish.

Theres millions of videos on youtube showing how to kill each big daddy even on hard mode. I usually use trap bolts as already said or I use the grenade launcher with all the different projectiles - I usually find firing proximity mines straight at the big daddies works the best

lol it's already gone down that path after running out of ammo.

It's been awhile but IIRC I used shotgun + shock ammo, killed them easily.
