Bioshock looks dreadful on PS3

Eurogamer often notes in their head to head comparisons that the PS3 versions look softer. I can't remember their exact explanation but the softening is done to disguise the way the game is internally rendered and/or the lack of AA.

Im questioning how they got the PS3 and Xbox versions in the exact same place on each picture.

Doesn't look too much different from the xbox really. In fact it looks exactly the same...

It looks exactly the same? Don’t want to be rude or funny but if you can’t see any difference maybe there is something wrong as I can see a huge difference! The PS3 images are blurry and you can’t see they kind of detail like you can in the Xbox version.

Are people comparing the small images, or clicking on them and comparing the large images ?

The PS3 images look much better if you look at the full size image although there is to me an obvious difference in quality between the 360 and PS3 versions.

if you run the pics through photoshop and apply a little sharpening, nothing else, they actually look better than th e360 shots. i think we're looking at something similar to gtaIV on the ps3, where bumping up the sharpness on the tv would transform the image. but id have to dwnload the demo to try it, and i cant be bothered :p

Bioshock sucked anyway :)

The storytelling, artistic direction and atmosphere were truly a breakthrough for computer games, unfortunately imo the game play was below average. It was because the game had nearly all of the makings of potentially the best game ever but missed so badly on one of the key aspects that makes it one of the biggest letdowns ever for me. It didn't suck, it just could have been so very much more.

/agree terribly blurry, tbh I don't believe the shots, there's no way there can be that much difference between the two. People saying that it's different rendering engines/harware, it's only that if it's lazy coding.

I meant the actual game. :p

Sorry, didn't make myself clear. I meant the PS3 demo and the xbox full game. Played both.

I personally think the person who did the article has taken an image and done some editing to it and produced 2 copies to play down the PS3 version even though they are identical on the full game, picture quality wise.

Response from the 2K Community manger, I'm pretty surprised actually, seems like quite an honest reply, it's great when company's take on-board the community's concerns and look into addressing them as promptly as 2k has.

Hey guys,

First, I want to thank you for the acute attention to detail and the Spartan level of expectation our most devoted BioShock fans hold us to, and how excited you are and attentive to the BioShock PS3 demo. When we saw a post asking about issues found in the demo, we jumped on it immediately. And you know what, you're right. The texture in the PS3 demo of the downed Big Daddy does not match our level of quality either. This slipped by. We admit it. However, I want to assure you that this is an exception, and not a rule, and while I regret this oversight, we put a lot of love into making this game look amazing for the PS3 and I'm sure that when you play the rest of the demo you will agree that the textures are not all like this one instance.

As for the other issues and concerns, we are currently diligently working to replicate any bugs, and will report back to you with what we find. Thank you for your vigilance here and moving forward.

Also if you force the game to run in 720p most of the blurriness dissipates.

Dreadful is too strong a word, the lighting and textures are identical, it's just a bit 'softer'.

Exactly, the way people overreact on here sometimes is just silly, it just looks softer to me, but running it in forced 720p with sharpness upped on my panel I can barely see any blurriness, certainly nothing like in the comparison pics.

There has also been an issue with the big daddy textures, although if you've the read response I posted above from the 2k community manager it apparently slipped by, hopefully they will fix/patch it.

Now before jumping all over these pic's with stupid responses like 'OMG LOLLLZZZZ 360>PS3' make sure you've read the entirety of my post.
