Crikey, bet that was a brown trousers moment...mind you is to be expected that it'll do big damage at those sort of speeds, given a seagull can conceivably take out aircraft if it hits it! See here...
Surprised to see the video says its at RAF Marham, given thats still a fully operation RAF Tornado base I'm surprised they open it to driving days - so much potential for things to go wrong resulting in debris/oil/general crap being spread all over the runways which would cause a hell of a FOD risk!
if that ever happened to me i'd smear two hand prints on the bonnet as well and see how long I could drive around with it before being pulled by the police - "On my way to have it repaired sir!"
I did my boss a favour last year by driving a Nissan pickup back to London from his place in Essex. I'd just turned onto the A13 and was accelerating up to around 50mph, and then a flash caught my eye and something slammed into the screen. I'd like to say that I calmly applied the brakes and brought the pickup to a safe stop, but that'd be a lie. I cacked it, plain and simple, ducked down and stood on the brakes. Luckily, no'one hit me (it would have completely my fault for having the Big-Jesse moment and panicking).
It was a goose, a bloody big goose. It had deflected off the front wing, slid up the bonnet and then hit the windscreen. There wasn't a lot of gore, or physical damage to the pickup, but was a ton of a grease-type material (a friend told me that it was the birds feather-waterproofing) and feathers everywhere.
The noise and bump of that impact terrified me, I really thought the thing was coming through the glass at me. My boss told me that it was quite a common occurance out his way. I was pretty disappointed at myself for reacting the way I did when it hit.
That's some scary stuff. Looks like it smacked the bonnet first and kind of took an upwards twist before hitting the screen. I wonder what a totally direct hit would have done.
And jebus, how strong is the evo's windscreen!.
