I've got a bird ( pidgin I think ) stuck in my chimney
I think the chimney is in 2 stages as the bird is the top of the house and hasn't fallen down into the open fire place,
Any ideas how I can help this bird free ?

Cannon ball.
Obviously!

Er, can't think of anything you can do, apart from phone chimney specialists. Otherwise it will die and rot in there.

Yeah like I have a house sized stick
Why didn't I think about that
Oh, in that case get hold of some TNT. I bet that's easier to get hold of than a long stick? :p

You could also use an air compressor.

Or throw a strong string down your chimney. Attach a tennis ball or something to the end in your fireplace. Then pull the string and it'll bring the bird along with it?

Air compressor would make no difference, unless the chimney is about 2mm across. Or you had a massive massive compressor! Try phoninh the RSPB and asking them, they may point you in the right direction.

I would see about getting a cover or guard put on there because this may happen again, luckily around here, the seagulls eat everything small enough to fit down a chimney.

Grab your diamond pick axe, pick away the brick surrounding the bird - collecting the blocks as you progress - and after setting the bird free, replace the bricks?

And then build a giant phallus in your garden out of gold.

I had a similar problem a little while back, but the bird was behind a gas fireplace. In the end I don't think there was anything to be done, and it just died. On the plus side, I don't think it actually smelt noticeably! I suppose maybe if you have an open fireplace you might be able to knock it down somehow unless there's an anti-santa grate or something.
