Bird stuck in chimney

Speaking of birds and chimneys... we did think that there was a bird behind our fireplace as we kept hearing banging and knocking.

Well a few weeks a go we had the fire removed and was met with:

We had a similar thing happen. Phoned them up, they came out and collected it from the Garden.
 
A little tweak to asim18's ingenious idea if I may.

To keep him alive for the next 18 hours, you could lower down a little thimble of water on a bit of string so the poor thing doesn't dehydrate. You could even make up a little platter of snacks, you know the usual "pidgin" food, seed, worms, bacon sarnie, chip butty with a splash of curry etc. Maybe some light reading material to pass the time, OK Magazine or Zoo depending on the gender.

Or if you can't be ****** to do any of that, would the garden hose reach?

Why not go the whole hog and get mountain rescue to climb up his roof and carry out a rescue.
