Birthdays

Having a birthday in Jan is pants. Lousy weather, no theme parks and most other attractions aren’t open. People are skint or forgotten about birthdays. A former colleague said his birthday on NYD is the worst. As people say Happy New Year to him and never Happy Birthday.

I could be the King and have two birthdays. Having one in the summer.
I've got a friend, her birthday is 2nd January but practically nobody knows that, she only told me that when she was drunk once.

As far as everyone is concerned, her birthday is in July. That's what she tells people, that's when she celebrates it.

I hate my birthday too. Awkward. When people "come round" at random points of the day to "see me" and give me an overpriced piece of paper and some alcohol....meh. I just hate being centre of attention as well.
Best birthday I had was when the wife took me away for the entire weekend and I didn't have to see anyone. We just had a nice time away.

I've got a friend whose birthday is December 26th, and he absolutely hates it.

He should have done what your friend did! That's a great idea.

To be honest the question is really dependant of your age. When I was younger I used to love birthdays. 18th birthday was always the best one to look forward to, because it was the magic age that you could legally do anything .

21st birthday was when you really felt like you were a proper age for an adult

But when I hit 30th birthday you feel that you are at the point in life that birthdays loose their cool factor .

now I’m approaching 40 it feels like every birthday is a day in which you realise you are one year closer to your inevitable end

Had my 40th in lockdown. Couldn't go anywhere and my idea of going somewhere far during the year which started when I was 35-36, went down the pan. Still not done it. Well, there's my 50th in 2031....

Though every cloud and that - my parents paid off my mortgage instead.

Not been interested in mine for years, doesn't help it's just before Xmas and I get Seasonal Affective Disorder, already had family wanting to make a big deal of turning 50 this year. I'll settle for simply not having anything similar to days after I turned 40, having an RTA on my bike and spending Xmas in Southampton General, plus weeks of rehab at the Wessex Rehab Centre in Salisbury!

Thought about going on holiday somewhere warm for your 50th?

We've not been abroad since Jan 2006 and both have passports now ten years out of date. Not to mention work has policy of no annual leave in December. I like the idea of returning to Tenerife like we did in Dec '04, but this time cycling up to the top of Mount Tiede, or doing some other famous big climb(s) closer to home... But first I've got to recover from long covid, then lose the extra weight I've put on and regain the fitness I've lost over the last nine months.

42 and mortgage paid off. Lucky git. Don’t know why you moan so much. That’s a dream for millions.

Between the ages of 30 and 39, I’ve only had 1 birthday at home, the rest of the time they’ve been while I’ve been at sea working as a ship’s engineer, where they’ve pretty much gone unmarked.

I’ve changed industries and work offshore now, where I spend less time away that I used to, but guess where I’ll be when I turn 40 in October…

What a load of miseryguts.

I hate birthdays also. - My brother and myself have sent the same card to each other since 1976 - it's a bit grubby now and I keep wondering which of us will be the last to sign it.
They ain't no fun no more - If I survive the next 8 months I will be 80. Why would I want to celebrate getting old and have health problems - not that I have many fortunately but now you never know whats round the corner. :D
