Birthdays

I don't care. So the Earth is at the same point in its orbit(*) as it was when I was born. Tiny woo. It doesn't care about such an arbitrary thing. Neither do I.

* I know that strictly speaking the Earth doesn't orbit the sun - they both orbit their common barycentre. But close enough.

I've had quite a few and still enjoy them. My partner spoils me on mine as I do with her. We have a nice day or weekend, go out for a meal, on hers we went to the beach and then got very very drunk indeed when we got home. My birthday we had tickets for the Egyptian exhibition at the British museum. I always book my birthday off, as I feel it's an offense to work on that day.

A meaningless milestone of decay.
If it's a milestone, can it be meaningless? :p

Like someone said earlier, it's the first day I book when the company holiday calendar opens for the next year - helps me avoid buying cakes in the office, or delay it anyway
Slightly unfortunate since my birthday's on Valentine's Day so going out to eat in the evening is a bit of a non-starter, and the weather's normally not so good in Feb
However, it does give an excuse to do something different during the day

I just hate being asked what i want for my birthday. If i wanted something during the year i would buy it, or its far too expensive to ask for as a present

I'm non fussed about my birthdays really. However it does come with a nice family meal and a reason to crack open a good bottle of wine or two.

I couldn't care less if I got no gifts etc. I prefer giving them. I actually forget it's even approaching because it's so inconsequential to me.

I’m very similar and much prefer giving presents and seeing others reactions than making a fuss and wanting to be the centre of attention.

I'm not a fan of the getting older part or the fact it's right after xmas and no one can be bothered lol.
I have a track record of bad birthdays particularly special ones. Every special birthday 18th, 21st, 30th was spoiled by a boyfriend.

It would be nice for someone to want to make it a good day for me. Doesn't have to be anything huge, even just buying me a cupcake and making a bit of fuss is enough.
I like to make sure other people have a good birthday though even if they say they aren't bothered.

I've had 2 good birthdays in the 20 years since turning 18. One was maybe a year after my dad died, my eldest sister suggested we have a family meal and then closer to the time made plans with other friends so it was just my mum and I. I couldn't be bothered to go to a restaurant as the whole situation got me down so we picked up a KFC and watched a movie instead.

The other was my 29th where i rented a place in Windsor with a friend and we spent the week having days out. They still had a Christmas tree up so it was nice and cosy

I'm still waiting on the handmade gift my sister was apparently making for my 30th. Maybe I'll get it for my 40th instead :D

I was going to start a similar thread to this, asking if anyone's birthdays fall on a weird date? E.g. Christmas Day, Hallowe'en, 9/11 (11th Sep), on a leap day, New Year's Day, Valentine's Day etc.

My birthday is 8th September, and we all know what that means. The day the Queen died.

Never liked my birthday much anyway as 8 is my unlucky number, it's a bit too close to 9/11 and now ofc the above about the Queen. Plus, I don't like the attention. I much prefer Christmas because it's a free-for-all meaning that everyone gets a bit of attention, not just me.

Mine is on 7 July, and my brother's is on 22 May. My other brother's is 15 January so I would avoid making plans in crowded spaces on that date. :o
