Bit disappointed with my 390x

Indeed. No need to use 3rd party software. Uninstall old drivers. after the reboot use DDU, and then install 16.3.
They work perfectly. :)
(and saw a Vulcan RT on the list also)

That dirt rally one is interesting- with maximum setting, when I run the benchmark I get 45fps.

Is it throttling or anything? It usually sits at 75c+ after half an hour of gaming.

you have advanced blending on dont you ?

the sweet spot is turn that off and use 4x msaa you will avg about 100 fps avg then ;)

also ingame the default settings it sets the game to is very good for performance to visual. so use default.

I got worried when I read the title of this thread.

I have a MSI Radeon R9 390X Gaming Edition 8192MB in the post because I mod my games HEAVILY and the 3GB I get from 280x is not enough.

It could even be a faulty card?

I did have Advanced Blending on. Not sure what it does but I'll turn it off and re-run the bench. I'm glad I'm getting to the bottom of the issues!

AMDMatt / OCUK- what effect would it have on my warrenty if I reapplied better and neater thermal paste on my GPU to keept it a bit cooler?

not much different its nearly twice as fast :p

advanced blending on dirt rally hammers fps.looks no much difference with it on either.so just turn off enjoy.

don't forget 390x isn't a massive upgrade from 7970 which was a beast, and could OC more... my 7950 boost would OC 25%, but current 390 nowhere near

The 290X was the top tier replacement card for the 7970 and was a good 50% faster at a guess and overclocked well as well and then the 390X replaced the 290X but is pretty much the same GPU, albeit with 8GB VRAM as standard and higher base and memory clocks.

A further development- last night on GTA V it started up with the frame rate stuttering at between 25 and 35 and instead of toggling vsync to sort it out I left it as it was. After a few mins i got a blackscreen for an instant and then it was suddently fine, locked to 60fps (due to vysnc). When I closed GTA V I had a "Crimson has stopped working- look online or close program" box up...

I think I will try and see what the clocks are doing tonight. Also install the beta drivers.

Sorry thats a bit misleading. I have upgraded from a 280x to a 390x. The performance increase is in the region of 40-50% (even when both are OCed) its actually not that far off 280x in crossfire (which I had before one of the 280x died). Dont get me wrong, a 280X/7970 is still a fairly capable card especially for its age but its not anywhere close to even a 290 at stock, let alone the refined 390/x

With the game maxed, with 4x AA and no advanced blending I get:

What the hell does advanced blending do to eat up ~60 frames per second!?
