no games.. video editing.. converting avi to dvd ..raring paring ..50 meg internet...John

As a "readymade" build that's actually very good for your needs. I suspect the nvidia 460 GPU was added to give you cuda support. By having a dedicated GPU the CPUs IGP can be used to help video encoding.

If you are confident enough to build it yourself you can see there are variations on the theme being spec'd :)

no good at building ..the spec was given to me over the phone ..that why i asked for opinions b4 i order it ..the spec given by shadow boxer is that as good or better than the one i got on the fone ..this is why i foned i havt a clue...would they put the shodow boxer spec together for me if its any better...John

They are both good. I'd probably go for shadow boxers if I were you, they will build it if you ask (not sure about the cooler, but they can put a water cooler instead in there - just the Gelid is bulky and isn't the best for posting in a complete system).

I'm sure they would assemble it if you asked them....for a price of course.

I won't go into all the "ins and outs" but essentially shadows build is cheaper and he has focused the budget on parts that the system "needs" for your uses.

He has omitted the GPU but you could always add one later if you wanted to. If your software supports cuda you could still add a 460 GPU to shadows spec and still be on the same price roughly as the OCuk quote.

I'm not saying OCuk have tried to fiddle you but you don't really need a SLI capable mobo and the 600W PSU is more than you need really. 500GB drive is quite good but you see shadow managed to work in a 1TB drive for storage by tinkering with the spec slightly :)

ok thanks to you both..but with the gpu (grafix card) and as for the sli he didnt mention that at all . i dont want a to get ripped of by computer companys selling me stuff i dont need but everyone is out to get as much money out of you as they can to peeps like me that dont know naf all about pcz..so i decided to get a Battlefield War General Intel Core i7 2700K 3.50GHz.. but with more memory and a better SSD the sales bloke said i would be better off buying a better gpu as it would help with my converting and editing,,,John

honosuseri.. thanks for your reply.(and others) but what is a GPU and SLI capable mobo ..thanks

The OCuk build has a gaming edge to it. The graphics card is capable of gaming, the mobo would take a 2nd 460 as a upgrade and the PSU has plenty of power to run midrange cards in SLI. To be fair they have suggested a very well rounded system for your needs with potential to expand on.

Shadow has omitted the gaming minded features to concentrate on the core spec. Although I heavily suspect you were suggested a nvidia card by OCuk to add CUDA support and enable the lucid virtu feature of the Z68 mobo.

Before you ask CUDA let's some software (e.g adobe) to use the dedicated graphics card to help crunch the numbers. Lucid virtu is making clever use of the GPU built into the i7 processor.

So in short YOU want shadows spec but I would add the nvidia 460 graphics card to the spec list too. Will work out roughly the same price and you arent compromising on speed or functionality :)

i think i'll fone oc in the morning with shadow boxer spec and ask them to make it up for me

Can't go wrong with that really.

Two points. Check if the software you are using can use CUDA or quick sync (Seeing as i've waffled on so much about it lol), it would be worth adding the 460 if they do.

Note the OCuk build is overclocked to 4.8ghz. So check that they will do that for you on shadows spec, although to be fair it's easy enough to get the BIOS to automatically do it for you.

Hope I haven't confused you further. Enjoy your machine, any more questions or problems you know where we are :)

well i emailed oc about shadow boxer spec and this is there reply ..Unfortunately we are unable to provide custom builds such as this, and you would need to select a bundle or system from our website, and you may be able to make a few amendments to it by calling our sales team directly. As for the high spec, if you are not looking for gaming it is unlikely that you will need an i7 processor and a Z68 motherboard, this is likely to be what our forum members are referring to. The i7 and Z68 provide an extremely high performance which is only really required for the latest heavy loading games...so now what help plz...

Jesus! Who emailed you back the work experience boy!?! :/ For a gaming build we suggest the cheaper i5 OC'd and spend the money saved on the GPU!

FOr video encoding etc YOU want the i7 for its hyperthreading support and the Z68 mobo is THE default choice for sandybridge processors. Phone guy also managed to get the better crucial M4 SSD drive into the build for you (they dont list it as an option when you use the websites config page).

Like I said shadow left out the graphics card to help lower the price. This removed cuda support and the lucid virtu features from the build. Both of those DO help software with video encoding.

Might I suggest you atleast look into doing the build yourself. There is an excellent guide here on the forum and you will find walkthrough videos on youtube. We are more than happy to help you find parts at the best price and help you through the build as well.

There is nothing wrong with what you were spec'd on the phone. In short shadows spec with a GPU added is the same price but you get a lil more HDD storage by having a cheaper PSU and mobo essentially.
