Hi all

I was looking at a macbook instead of a netbook...

everyone keeps saying how they are better etc.

Now looking at the website it says it have a 7 hour battery life? is this while on the internet etc? The only games I would be playing on them is WOW or CM so would i get like 5 hours on this or dvd play back?

Also do they have blue ray players built in?

Do they have HDMI? and finally do they have VGA ports? as I would be looking for all 3

thanks all

I can't comment on battery life on the new ones but I'm sure someone will be able to.

There are no blu-ray drives or HDMI output and the video comes out to a mini displayport for which you can get adapters for VGA.

really?

I thought they were all about the media apple macs? no HDMI sucks a bit?

can you get hdmi converters?

? thanks for reply?

Well it's pretty easy to find out what ports they have isn't it...

If connectivity is your thing then look elsewhere, however a netbook wont have anything either.

It has a mini display port, which will convert to all the stuff you need via some adapters. Obviously, not at the same time.

I don't think you'll find any laptop with hdmi and vga.

They don't have blu ray, however battery life is pretty much best on the market.

I would say better build quality, but the Hdd, cpu and ram are all generic stuff anyone can buy.

They have excellent warranty (extend for the 3 years is always worth it). They are nicer to use than a dell. Casing doesn't feel like its going to break/fall apart after about 5 minutes use.

Go to a shop and try one out!

Mini-Displayport to HDMI adaptors are available and work flawlessly.

I use one to connect a Mac Mini to a 60" calibrated Pioneer plasma without issue :)

The glass trackpads on the Mac portables are a thing of pleasure, but it will take getting used to if you've never used one.

Go to your nearest Apple store / reseller and try them out before you buy.

Tbh you shouldn't compare a macbook to a net book as they are two different things. I can vouch for the pleasure of using a macbook as they are all I have had laptop wise for the last 3 - 4 years. But the battery life stated above is unfortunately not true, although they quote 7 hours, you'll find it hard to reach this unless the screen brightness is right down and bluetooth and wifi is knocked off. I usually get 3-4 hours with usual settings. Hope this helps.

I can get 5 hours of browsing with the brightness turned down and no iTunes or background tasks running. That's on a 2008 Whitebook with integrated graphics.

hmm I'm thinking I will give it some time to improve. looks like a lot of the current spec are almost a year old now? surely they will be updated soon?

any news of a blue ray drive? or better cpu coming soon? Currently have a 2 year old dell Vostro 1500. But looking at it that spec it is almost same as current dell.

Would maybe looking at the mac book air... but would need to see how small it was as look flat but fat if you know what i mean. but having a SSD sounds nice... Im guesing if I upgraded the SSD it would void warrenty?

Yer sorry that was sort of my point, its still unknown. I don't personally think apple are going to implement it at all. I think their view of the world in the future is everything stored on HDD downloaded from itunes.

I dont agree with it at all and think that they should have implemented it as soon as HDDVD fell on its arse.
