The story

I purchased some sp2200 from overclockers last december within 1 week of purchase the speakers started to fail with a certain crackling issue in the left satellite speaker overclockers replaced these for me.

Though several months on the same issue started to happen to the replacement speakers and I have had to rma them with corsair.

Now these speakers are still under warranty but corsair tell me I can't have a replacement of the same speaker because they are an obsolete/discontinued product!! funny that when there still on sale in a few places.

They have the cheek to send me this message.

Why should I have to pay another $50 to receive a replacement when the 1st product I purchased didn't work and I only wanted to pay little for them in the 1st place..

They are not offering you the same speakers. $50 is about £30 more for speakers that retail for £180.00 odd.

How much did you pay for the SP220's? I seem to remember them coming down to around £30.00.

Whilst I do not entirely agree with their stance as the SP220's are discontinued, what they are offering is not bad at all.

They replaced my £170 paid for XMS3200 400MHz PRO LED ram with some cheap equivilent speed DDR2. Bit gutted but oh well!

You shouldn't be asked to pay more, you don't have to accept it. But it sounds like a bargain to me. 50$ is £31.

Your faulty unit CA-SP212UK cost about £40 to £50 in Dec. 2011
Corsair wants to replace it with Corsair CA-SP211UK SP2500 which cost about £180 now but wants you to pay $50.
I say take the offer and if you dont want to use it, sell it and get your $50 back and buy a £50 speaker, profit?

@ PapaLazaru

I know there not offering me the same speakers m8 that's not the point, the point is they couldn't fulfill a warranty request for an item which was still inside the warranty period. Probably because so many have been sent back with the same issue.

@ AtaRo

They were £38 when purchased which was the reason why I purchased them.

I have offered them $25 for the upgrade I don't care how much there worth, the point is they haven't fulfilled a warranty request under warranty deadline so it's their fault not mine so I shouldn't have to pay for the upgrade but I don't mind paying $25.

I do agree and I do own the same speakers, though mine have been perfect (so far at least).

They are discontinued though, so the best you are likely to get is a refund.

Tell you what, i'll give you $50 and my speakers. You send me the new ones? :D

On the one hand, you shouldn't be expected to pay out.
On the other hand, what they're offering you is in no way a proportional upgrade (I returned some HS1A's previously, and was given the Vengeance 1300's as replacements, I'd never have paid for the upgrade, but you've essentially gone from the vengeance 1100's to the vengeance 2000's if that was my case), I'd snap their hand right off as I'm taking that offer.

I've heard of a few SP2200's breaking, and I haven't seen them for sale anywhere for a while, I guess they've had problems with reliability then.

Kind of wish I'd bought some if I could get a 30 quid SP2500 upgrade out of them.
I spent about 160 on my SP2500's.

I think you'd be borderline insane to push for a refund of your 38 quid, than pay another 30 quid to end up with SP2500's.

Request your money back from Corsair, if you don't wish to accept the great offer they have given you.

If it was me, I would be throwing $50 into Corsairs pockets as quick as possible, for that bargain of an upgrade...

Looks like I will have to pay $50 for the upgrade because the joke of a reply I got from them this afternoon well ermm.

Corsair

Why would someone who purchased speakers want a gaming headset as a replacement

Why are you dealing with Corsair and not OCUK? Whilst Corsair offer a warranty you have much stronger statutory rights through the Sales of Goods Act with the seller. OCUK are obliged to repair/replace/refund.

Overclockers would have dealt with it m8 either with replacing them or refunding.

I have just got off the phone with corsair and paid the $50 for the upgrade.

So why aren't you dealing with them?

Corsair would prefer you deal direct with them, it can also be faster.

Also, the OP would get a refund with OCUK assuming they couldn't get it from the supplier (This could take 28 working days, unless they level with you straight out and say they're unable to get a replacement.) While I would go to the E-tailer, in this case if I had I'd be kicking myself.
SP2500's for under 70 quid? I'd do unspeakable things to people for that chance.
