BitFenix Shinobi XL Review

setter: Sounds good... soon there should be enought Shinobi XL users at OCUK for a Shinobi XL Owners Club on OCUK :D

which fan for floor and front? idea: remove front 23cm and put it on top, what do you think?
I took the rear 120mm and put it on the floor, replaced it with a fan i had that matches the one on my cpu cooler.

Not a bad idea.:)

What extras are you planning stulid? Ive fitted my fan controller into mine this evening. Also ordered two silverstone AP's, should hopefully have them for the weekend. The stock fans are very quiet, but dont shift enough air.

A little delivery just arrived,

I've been itching to replace my Fractal Design R3. There's nothing wrong with it at all, other than it doesn't have a window. I like the style of this case, it's not overstated, and it's not aimed at the tastes of 13 year olds. I'll hang off and see what kind of windowed side comes out. Hopefully something nice, big and plain without any fancy mesh bits or fans mounted.

Stulid your review is very well done, and worthwhile reading, if I could suggest anything it would be to keep the pictures you have as thumbnails, and have them link to larger ones. You obviously took your time to get nice clear precise photos, but I find them a wee bit small.

Well, our opinions differ. I like bigger pictures... Still I don't want it to come across that I'm unhappy with your review, I thought you did a very good job indeed with it.

Been playing around all day, here are my findings.

• Stock cooling.
• Added a single 120mm Spectre Pro fan in front of the PSU blowing air down and out, also bringing air in from underneath.
• Three 230mm Spectre Pro fans fitted and running, the 120mm disabled.
• All fans running.

i5 2500K@ 4.5Ghz
Antec kuhler 920 set to Silent mode.
Palit GTX570 with factory fitted twin fan cooler @ stock frequencies.

Ran Prime95 for 20 minutes.
Ran Heaven 3.0 with the same settings as in the results thread - http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18386056

So as you can hopefully see, adding the 120mm fan bringing cool air in knocked a few °C off, and all the fans running dropped the temps on both the GFX+CPU.

Pros

Looks so pimp:cool:
Lower temps.

Cons

Noise, its definitely louder with these fans than it is out of the box.

Ah, I see. I wasn't sure if that was taking a fan controller into account or not. I actually prefer fans that way, I control all of them so it's nice to have a bit more welly if needed. Not ideal for everybody though.... and PWM is an improvement because it allows you to run them very slowly.
