bittorrent software - how do i get around blocking?

they will have sent you numerous emails regarding you breaking the FUP. You chose to ignore them and this is the result, your own fault.

hardly mate - i live in a shared house. if the isp sends email i don't get them, so it's my housemates fault.

anyway, judging by your replies in this topic wtf... do you work for an isp or something? you seem a little biased in their favour...

Nope, he's just being sensible.

You seem to forget you share your connection with at least 20-50 people maybe more in your area; if all you do all day is download then you're making it rather unpleasant for the other users that happen to be on your contention ratio.

Either don't download so much; or pay the high expence for an ISP that will give you an uncapped service tbh.

You seem to be blaming anybody but yourself here. :)

no, if my housemates didnt warn me about emails from the ISP then it's hardly my fault. and who the hell said anything about me doing nothing but downloading all day? the connection is shared between seven people, so i suppose despite that it's all my fault, eh?

i think its your fault for every single bad thing that happens in this world too

i hope you're happy

Funny, because i always got the impression that Broadband was meant to be always on, highspeed internet that you could use at any time.

Now ISP's are focussed on plonking more users on the exchange and making money then actually providing a decent broadband service.

I rip the bandwidth on our cable connection (shared between 3 of us), and we've never had a phonecall or letter, where as my friend who uses it pretty much himself (ocassionally his dad to) and recieved his own letter warning about bandwidth use.

He phoned and said he'd like to cancel and refused to pay the outstanding bill, he paid for 'Unlimited Broadband' (as advertised).... and expected to get it....... they reconsidered the letter, apologised and reduced his bill.

Which is quite amazing considering NTL's history......

I'll be with NTL until they start introducing carp like the OP's ISP.

That might be your problem. If your ISP is running these things (like mine  ) You will have problems, and there isn't gonna be much you can do about it apart from changing ISP.

because heavy downloaders lose them money hand over fist, bandwidth is pretty expensive.
thats not our problem
they shouldn't advertise services like this with the intention of restricting your use.
if they ARE losing money they should have two services, and state it clearly "on this service you're not allowed to use the unlimited bandwidth we advertised. in reality you're on a limited service but we don't tell you till you've gone over the invisible limits we put in place"
