Blackberry Playbook....

Brilliant, means you can have a play on it on the plane!

I think it's a bit big for a jean pocket unless you have big jeans lol. A jacket though it would slide is with no problems. it has a decent solid weight about it so you would notice it is there.

Mine has no dead pixels and in day to day with a black background i can't see any backlight bleed but not really tested it to the max.

If i can't notice it while using as it is at night and day then im happy.

Cool thats good to know mate....one question though, in one of your pics you have your BB 9780...the wallpaper for it, i like it....anywhere i can get ie a link that you can post or is it one that you made yourself??.

Cheers and yes definitely will be playing with it on the flight....going to load up a few videos to watch on my flight over:).

Cool thanks Sega mate...i like the top one so that will be my new wallpaper:)

Just got home to open up my playbook...wow pretty impressed with its size...turned it on and the screen looks brilliant although i have 2 dead pixels...grrrr guess my brother must be going blind lol as he said there wasnt but i can see them pretty clearly....not a big problem as im off to Canada in a few hrs so ill just exchange it for a new one.

Only thing is that on the set up screen it only gives me Canada, french or english and USA english as the countries...is that going to cause me problems in the future as i live here in the UK??

Wont cause any issues as i havent had any, i just chose USA.

It's only because it hasn't come out over here.

Quake 3, i'm liking that

Yep thats what i have done...just downloaded the latest update so will play with it later as its on charge at the moment..

There is those apps but you do need to have a Blackberry phone to bridge too.

Also they will be released within a month so by the time of a UK release date they will be on there i would have thought, but yes i do agree it is a little silly.

Anyway after using it for a week or so i will give a little update.

Good Points:

Nice screen seems sharper than ipad to me.

Nicely built, feels well made and has a decent weight too it, also looks a lot classier in person.

QNX has a lot of potentional, i already prefer it than iOS and updates should make it better.

Cameras are far better than ipad and equivelent tablets.

Ability to bridge to a Blackberry cutting out the imo daylight robbery of expecting people pay an extra tariff.

Flash support, people will say it's not that important and ipad has done fine which it has but for me it's a must on a tablet.

Comes with a sleeve which is nice and saves the extra investment in protecting your device.

Bad Points:

It can't be denied the app store is woeful at the moment and i hope it will use Android apps because it needs it. Still early days though and im sure developers will jump on board.

Not sure if this is on all but when i lay it flat on a surface the typing and web browsing goes all over the place, hold it at an angle and it's spot on.

Browser as of now isn't as responsive or smooth as the ipad, although updates could surely fix this and no doubt will.

The bridge browser is slow, but a recent update to this has been released so will test to see if it's any quicker.

In all honesty there is not a lot wrong with it and the things that are can be fixed because in my opinion they're all software based, they really need the android apps though because if blackberry world doesn't improve it could turn out to be a flop. Although this is their first attempt and it's still very early days.

Hardware wise it's spot on imo and QNX is a very welcomed addition to the market.

Whats that theme/layout you have on your bold?

A video showing Android apps running on the blackberry playbook...uses a android app player which runs the apps within the QNX OS.

The future of this tablet looks pretty solid.

Have been playing around with mine for the past few hrs and i have to say that i absolutely love it to bits...blackberry bridge is simply awesome ie having my BBM and other things on there is pretty cool...its not super fast but its ok...suppose it still needs a bit of tweaking but its getting there.

Love the size of it, can see this going easily into a jacket pocket or similar...my uncle also liked it and wanted it as well but told him where to go:p.

Having had this tablet for the past few days, i have to say i absolutely love it...my laptop hasnt even been used as been using the PB for web browsing...having the browser flash enabled is pretty freaking awesome...compared it to my mates ipad2 and mine was quicker at rendering than his was...using my wifi which is 20mb download...very impressed and the screen on the PB is sharper than the ipad2...probably due to the screen size.

My mate has returned his ipad2 and ive ordered him a PB like mine lol...thats how impressed he was with it.

BB appworld is getting better slowly with some real cool apps ie scrapbook and artgo, which is an awesome little colour book app for kids. Battery life is amazing, im getting around 12hrs+ with light/moderate useage and about 9hrs+ with hard useage....its a breeze to type on, typing on it now...the screen is great in direct sunlight, was very impressed with it and how i could see things on the screen in the sunlight. I love the swipe gestures of this tablet as well...closing apps is easy, just a quick swipe up and it gives it a throw away animation...love the multitasking, have a few different options ie paused, showcase...which leaves apps running in the background...pretty damn cool i have to say.

Only gripes i have so far is that they havent added in auto caps or correction features...hopefully next week a new OS update will be out to rectify that....RIM are saying that they are looking at about 2 week OS update interval.

The future is bright for this tablet, really stunned at how much i love it.

I honestly can't see how your mate would prefer it over the iPad 2, let alone return it for one

When the app store is better, maybe, but not for now. Apps are a huge part of how useful a tablet can be, thus why the iPad is doing so well and won't be touched for some time.

Well i myself was a bit surprised when he said to order him one as hes ditched the ipad2...thats about the only good thing about the ipad is the apps and range of apps imo...anyhow each to their own, i played with his ipad2 extensively and i found it far too big for my liking, which is one of the main reasons amongst others that he returned it for...i couldnt see myself lugging it around all the time whereas the PB is far more portable...the screen to me on the PB is far more sharper as well...Personally the thing that sold it for him was the PB's take on multitasking...he was gobsmacked at the showcase multitasking ie things running in the background whilst doing other stuff.

Trust me with the imminent arrival of android player on the PB, then we will have a greater range of apps to choose from compared to what is available at the moment....saying that the list of apps in BB appworld are getting better and better.

But saying that...having one apple product is enough for me although im tempted to get an macbook pro 13" at some point but not sure....**** me could be turning into an iphag:eek::p

I want to order a 15/17" Macbook Pro but I fear my girlfriend would stab me through the heart for it as I dont really need one :( :p

Well just recently announced on Twitter that the Playbook release date for the UK is 16th of june so about a month or so away.

Prices are inline with the ipad2:

£399 for the 16gb version
£479 for the 32gb version
£559 for the 64gb version

Still picked mine up a bit cheaper than what the 32gb version will be sold for...paid £450 for mine.

What's the battery life like on the both the PlayBook & your BB handset when using bridge?

I'm worried it's going to be a battery drain on both devices.

Brilliant actually...i get over 10+hrs battery life with mild useage and with heavy useage i get around 8 hrs....battery life is immense on the playbook tbh but one thing i noticed last night is the battery meter doesnt read accurately ie last night i was on 0% battery life according to my battery meter and i still used the pb for a good 30mins or so...using the bridge doesnt really affect the battery life tbh well i havent seen much of an affect...the only problem i have with bridge is that its kinda slow especially the browser...BBM works fine altho it can slow down now and again...but i only use the bridge function sparingly and when i do i have my BB in my charging pod so its always on charge so to speak.

Still addicted to the playbook...hopefully soon native email and PIM functions will be added via a software development.

Thanks for the response Spawn. I'm looking to buy one from the bay to pair with my Torch. I've got an iPad at the minute and the battery life on that is superb so it's good to know battery life doesn't take a major hit whilst using BB Bridge! :)

How did you go with getting a replacement due to dead pixels? Is the Blackberry warranty worldwide ala Apple?

Havent done anything about it as RIM UK hasnt got their systems set up for any pb related issues....but tbh its not huge deal to me as it doesnt affect my useage.

Spoke to RIM UK a few weeks ago...and they say it shouldnt be a problem getting it fixed or replaced even though its an American spec.

Well that's it, I've just won a brand new 16gb PlayBook on the bay.

To say i'm excited is an understatment. Can't wait to use Blackberry Bridge! :D

Any idea if RIM have any plans to make bridge notifications include SMS, Facebook etc. Basically mirror all my Torch notifications?

Congrats dude:D

Well bridge at the moment is pretty basic so dont be too disappointed if you find it slow and cumbersome as it can be....as for facebook notifications??...well theres a facebook app on the playbook which is much much better than the one that you get on the BB devices ie it has chat on it and basically looks like the web facebook site.

Not 110% sure if sms comes up on the playbook when bridged as i dont text all that much, i use BBM which does mirror whats on my BB device.

Best place to find more info, tips and tricks is www.crackberry.com. They have a sub forum dedicated to the playbook and the apps for the playbook.

Enjoy:).

Recieved our 32Gb version at work today so I'm looking forward to having a good go with it.

1st impression is that it is a lot smaller than I thought, but I have to admit, I think it's the right size - the Ipads have always been too big imo. Impressed with the finish and the feel of the OS and the playbook itself.

I was also pleasantly surprised at the ease of setting up the bridge - having the QT code for the bridge on the BB in the setup is a nice touch :)

I also like the use of the bezel to swap apps/pull up the taskbar etc.

Looking forward to seeing how it performs longer term now :)

Now.. onto the appstore :)
