BlackBerry Torch

You say "Android" but you don't say what handset or what Android version it was running.

There are no obvious problems with Android 2.3/2.2 on a modern handset like you mention (crashing and so on).

That's like saying "I now use a Mac running Lion/Leopard because Windows was BSODing all the time" when you went to Mac from a 5 year old PC running Windows XP.

As for the apps, again, the ame above applies and apps now are of a high quality standing.

Sounds to me you upgraded from a previous generation Android OS & device so the gains stand out more and are tarnishing Android as a platform based on n aged experience?

FWIW I use all 3 phones OSes on devices less than 12months old.

I mentioned I had a Milestone, which had Android 2.2 on it. I found the battery life appalling, and I really didn't get on with Android. I've used various Android handsets and found them all... wanting. I found the majority of apps were of a fairly low quality, and the phone in general was plagued with tiny delays (i.e. sliding to answer a call incurred a 1-1.5 second delay before it actually answered), sliding the keyboard out incurred a 1 second delay before the view flipped etc. None of these issues are present on the Torch.

Ah, apologies then about the handset!

I atke it you tried a Desire running Sense and/or a stock 2.3/2.3 ROM? There's a big difference between stockified Moto phones and those customised a bit deeper.

Yes it should work out of the box without tweaking but Motorolla/Samsung didn't see it that way previously, which is unfortunate.

As for the apps though, IMO what I said above still stands, there are a lot of cracking apps both visually and with function as well. It's no longer a case of Android having poor apps any more. There are fewer useful apps on BB's Appworld for example, moreso useful free ones.

I take your point about the poor quality handset - I will never ever buy a Motorola handset again! I guess my opinion of Android could've been soured by the poor handset, but I just find the Torch suits my needs a lot more. The apps I've installed seem to work better, and the default media app is fantastic.

I think part of the problem with Android is that there is such huge variability with the hardware, and with different manufacturers releasing updates in their own timescales. At least with iOS / BBos you get updates regularly, regardless of your handset.
