Blackout drinking - do you ever get the memory back?

When I was younger I could remember the entire night without effort. As I got older it changed to me not remembering certain things until someone described what happened and I then remembered fine.... Now entire segments can go missing and, even after people tell me what happened, I cannot recall them.

Doesn't happen often mind you.

A fair few times at uni yeah. I've only ever got brief flashbacks the next day, but never anything more.
Though I have sobered up enough half way through to find myself very confused as my memory ended just as we were about to go out and came back again as I got back into my room, so from my point of view I'd never been out, thought it was many hours earlier and assumed they went out without me :( next morning was fun "huh? You were there, why are you saying we left you in?"
I am blessed with drunk sat nav, no matter what state I'm in i always, without fail, end up back at my own bed with my pj's and the light off :D never woke up in a bush.

I remember my first shandy too, or rather i don't cos i was so totally blacked out dude.

I watched a TV program about this a long time ago. I believe that alcohol interferes with your brains ability to create memory so when you don't remember what happened you may have actual blank memories. Flashbacks are where memories that weren't 100% complete are accessed after a period of time and your brain "repairs" them.

Not sure how much of this is true as I was drinking heavily at the time!

I used to do this often a few years ago. I got drunk way too much. Whole portions of the evening would be a blur or not there at all. People would tell me about stuff I'd done and I'd have no recollection of it.

Thankfully I'm proud to say I've cut my drinking a lot since then. It's about a half of what it used to be.

It's a miracle I'm still alive with the drinking I did in my uni days. There were lots of beer festivals in Sheffield which I always went to and got totally drunk. Sometimes I would be in a coma for a whole day afterwards. That was 20 years ago, to this day I cannot recall anything that happened.

Seriously, how stupid do you have to be to drink yourself into such a state? I don't understand how it could be even remotely enjoyable once, let alone repeating the experience multiple times... :o

I have this weird ability to know when I have had enough to drink, and to, wait for it... STOP. Wow. I have never blacked out from drinking too much. Cheers.

That's lovely but at a beer festival, you've got to try at least half a pint of EVERYTHING on offer. You don't want to miss out on finding a new favourite tipple. :D It was actually the selection of perry that did me in rather than beer.

Never ever got to that state...even after a night of absinthe i could still remember everything...i just felt rather poorly :p

I've never understood losing your memory.

Hell for my 30th birthday. I started in the pub at lunch time, drank about 10 pints and 2 vodkas. Then around 5pm I went home had a shower ready for my party my family organised.

I proceeded to drink around 8 more pints and around 30 jagerbombs - at one point I did 8 jagerbombs in a row. I had a couple vodka redbulls too.

I recall everything that evening, and that is far more drink than many people drink, however I was totally bladdered and my speech was a little bit slurry lol.

But I remember it all!

I know the amount of booze was quite silly - but it was my 30th.

All of the OcUK staff were there, they will recall my drunk state ;)

get this on the regular.

A normal indication of where i've been is either receipts in my pocke, or my online bank statement.

**** it

You only black out or receive memory loss if you can't handle your liquor and you should stick to lady pints in future.

lol. I will often drink entire bottles of spirits a night, for no other reason that I'm off the clock. That being said, I've had nights so severe that I have had no recollection of what happened. Hell, I still remember what happened to me the night I managed to drink myself into alcoholic gastritis.

But no, I'll stick with lady pints.
