Just because you can notice a difference doesn’t mean it’s meaningful.

As I’ve said elsewhere, to me things have the perception of being smooth / slick at a solid 90fps. Beyond that is a ‘mere sweetener’… regardless of whether I can tell the difference or not.

Your mileage may vary but… unless you’re literally a gamer pro looking for a competitive advantage, maybe not?

I think that’s relevant for the sense of value. Nicer is nicer and better is better. But there’s no need for people to have extensive outlay over a difference that’s not ‘truly meaningful’.
You've literally just undermined the whole marketing industry, probably sending someone to "have a word" with you right now :cry: As I see it you have Sales & Marketing - predators, and Consumers - prey. The trick is not becoming an easy meal ;)

I play a lot of fps: For me it is very meaningful, more so than the difference between high and ultra, more so than rt. When my mouse is still I see sharp 4k, but 90% of the game when I'm flicking around, I am essentially only seeing a 1080p level of sharpness. Ultra and rt are "sweeteners". I think for many people who haven't had higher motion res and play fps, if they ran 240 it may seem a little better, but after a month, going back to 90 would be surprisingly worse than they remember, kinda like your eye and brain adjust. Most recently i've seen it with OLED users who go 165 to 240. Initial impression is ahh its nice, a month or two later opinion changes to I couldn't go back even moving windows around is much nicer. But again, if I didn't play games with fast motion then a lower framerate and cranked up ultra rt would be more "meaningful". It's a major draw back of sample and hold screen tech that you need such high frames to keep motion resolution and I really want a good jump in bfi type tech so we can have clarity at much lower framerates. Crt ftw :D

Never played it. To be fair everybody’s need are different. I personally won’t need a GPU as I game at 4K with an 4090 with all the tricks Nvidia supplied us with to get plenty fake frames. Doesn’t bother me. But if you are a purist who wants all these tricks disabled I can see why you would want a better GPU for the next 2 years. After this is done willy waving.

It was a joke, of course I can assume you haven't played Skyrim VR otherwise you would not think a RTX5090 for VR was 'willy waving'. It will be needed to drive current and upcoming VR headsets at native resolutions of 2800x and beyond. VR literally eats up GPU power in ways flatscreen gamers will never experience unless they play any sims that use triple screens.
