No way would they raise the price for a 4080 to that kind of level with those specs IMO. We shall see, gentlemen!

The price for the 5080I reckon £1849... anyone have any lube?
I can see the price of the 5090 being 2500 for sureNah. Hopeful but.... Nvidia is going to mug everyone for every penny they can.
5090 £2500
5080 £1749

And if it can't match it and has less memory (so less useful for AI work) plus cost 1300+, your 4090 might actually gain in price, especially if one needs vRAM for work. I'm not selling mine now (if anything I'd do it to downgrade to xx70 class as that's what my current use case would suit the most) but if the prices go up in silly way, I might be tempted to actually gain more on sale than I paid for it.This seems close to accurate the more I think about it, I can sell my pre-owned 4090 for £1400+ right now if the 5080 matches or surpasses it, it can command 1200-1500 brand new probably.
Hopefully not though
AMD shown everyone that you don't need fancy 4000 series for proper FG, though - that's not going to fly again. If anything, I suspect super fancy new AI algorithms might need more tensor cores than we currently have but that would be about performance, not compatibility with older series - and that I can forgive. Artificial locking when you are a monopoly is asking for trouble now from regulators.FG was handy but locking it out from previous gens was typical form. DLSS 3 wasnt really a great excuse to justify on its own. Waiting to see whatlock outsfeatures are heading in this gen in January!
But if history in this industry is any indication, the strategy is "block then incur the gentle wrist slap later." (because that wrist slap will be pocket change compared to the benefits of us owning and controlling the space).Artificial locking when you are a monopoly is asking for trouble now from regulators.
I feel like this is going be like the 3080 /3090 release where the 5080 going be priced low as possible and the 5090 going be priced high as possible
True, but is still an incredible low number considering PS5 Pro should have added something there as well. I've never seen such low figures before.Ok, so what you meant by that is operating margin of the whole gaming department for the Q3 - which isn't the margin they set on GPUs for example (2 very different things). It doesn't seem to have anything to do with RND done on these years earlier either, nor with MCM cost. It only cares about sales numbers and current expenses - it might as well be because their current RND of this department is funded heavily and eating all of the income. In other words, it hardly tells us anything about actual performance of that department in a given quarter by itself.
If all was right in the world this would be true, but we're way past the point where nV (or AIBs) have any reason to go back on prices. 5080 will be somewhere around original 4080 i.e. £1200 out the door.I feel like this is going be like the 3080 /3090 release where the 5080 going be priced low as possible and the 5090 going be priced high as possible
Nvidia don't actually want to sell many gaming cards in the current climate where the same silicon can be sold to AI companies for much more money so its in their own interests to make the gaming cards look as unattractive as possible to keep demand low as they prioritise the limited supply of TSMC silicon to AI.I feel like this is going be like the 3080 /3090 release where the 5080 going be priced low as possible and the 5090 going be priced high as possible
It's a win-win because people will still pay the stupid prices.Nvidia don't actually want to sell many gaming cards in the current climate where the same silicon can be sold to AI companies for much more money so its in their own interests to make the gaming cards look as unattractive as possible to keep demand low as they prioritise the limited supply of TSMC silicon to AI.
It was cheaper to get improvements, too. It isn't anymore. Again, if that's not the case, why is AMD only at 2% margin?
