Blackwell gpus

I'm hoping I'll be sitting pretty with my 7900 XT still performing great as it stands. Considering I bought it about 18 months ago, I can't really claim to have buyer's remorse no matter how the next gen turns out, but I can possibly experience buyer's gloating :D

Can only wonder what the truth is. With the latest rumours being the 5080 16 GB is going to be ~$1500, but so savagely cut down compared to the 5090 (and 4090), it can't possibly be that impressive.

On the other hand the latest word is the Radeon RX 9070 XT is going to be '7900 XT / 4080' performance for the price of a 7800 XT .

It's rather hard to reconcile these two latest rumours. I mean, is there supposed to be something like a 25% performance gap between the RX 9070 XT and RTX 5080, but the latter will cost 3x as much?

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if CES reveals current speculation to be way off the mark.

If the 5080 $1500 leak is true then there’s no way the 5070 will be $600 so I doubt the 9700XT will be going for $500 or less with how AMD operates.

I have little faith in leaks anymore. No one saw the Radeon VII coming on the AMD side. I know it was a temporary meme flagship card, but no one knowing a thing about it was telling.

I recall the RTX 3000 series being a shock regarding the performance and price point - the 3070 equalling the 2080 Ti IIRC with an MSRP of $499.

There was even some rather convincing overhype about RDNA3 being about to smash NVidia and take the crown for AMD at one stage, some running with that all the way until launch day, when their credibility was instantly ruined.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the 5090 is something silly like 3k this time, some people thought the 4090 was too cheap last time and look what Nvidia did when they thought the 3080 price was cheap, near doubled it.

3k for a 5090
1500 for a 5080
1000 for a 5070ti
800 for a 5070

Take it or leave it, if you don’t want it we’ll just sell the silicon to google/META for 40k a pop.

Some people thought the 4090 was too cheap? Who on earth would think that, other than Jensen perhaps?

I thought the 4090, and the 3090 before it, were ridiculously priced, but I still begrudgingly bought one as it fit my requirements, pricing aside.

If the 5090 really is 3K I genuinely think Nvidia will have overstepped the mark by some margin. That wouldn’t be a price hike, that would be a pee take!

So wait, the 5080, which spec wise looks worse than the 4090, is getting the same price tag as said 4090 ?

I know Nvidia wanted to emulated Apple but I can't remember Apple pulling something like that?

Yeah there is no way I see the 5080 beating the 4090 unless the specs are way off. The 4090 has 60% more cores than the 5080, no amount of IPC can make up for that. Also telling, is that the 5080 is confirmed to have less memory bandwidth than the 4090 and bandwidth is very important for Nvidia cards, it cannot beat the 4090 if it has less bandwidth, unless they massively increase cache again like they did from 3000 to 4000

well if its 3k he can suck his own nuts!!

well I mean yea I'm leaning towards this leak being not true, but maybe their logic is since it will probably perform at about 4090 levels... charge the same price as one? lol.

I will say that if they are really this wild... I'm checking out. I'll even buy AMD as long as they just manage to maintain the XTX's level of performance - 80% of the performance at 50% of the price of the 4090. Give me the next gen of that and I'll take it over a 3 grand 5080.

I know people are saying placeholder, but what about the retailers cost? I presume they already know that, so wouldn't that have been accurate?

Man, the 4080 is what, 25% behind the 4090? The 4080 was considered a terrible card, and the 3080 was considered a great card, and if the 5080 jump is the same as the previous one, the 5080 will tool on a 4090

Didn't the 3090ti have some super bus and the 4080 a terrible one?

They're gonna do it. They not gonna sell 4090 performance for a reasonable price. They're still selling 4090 performance at... 4090 price. Good god.

I was really thinking of spending 2500 cad on a 5090. I cannot justify 3500-4k. That's actual money at that point. I'd feel ridiculous. People would think I'm a psycho
