bladeless fan

I wonder if it's any quieter?

Fans generally do their job pretty well, moving the air about the place - but they can be incredibly annoying when it comes to noise levels.

If it's quieter it could be pretty darn good, I'd certainly want to use them in our office and in PC's... if they're not, then I really couldn't care.

The Air Multiplier works by sucking in one unit of air at the base, and pushing it out at speed through a thin gap in the fan's ring. The expelled air is pushed out over an airfoil-shaped ramp (similar in shape the wing of an aeroplane). In doing so, surrounding air is drawn into the air flow, so by the time the cool air hits an office worker's face, it is the equivalent of 15 units of air.

It IS a bladed fan.

It uses a hidden impeller out of view and out of the main airflow path. That then produces "high" pressure air which is directed out in a ring shape around the circular "fan" section.

Through fairly well known principles the high speed air drops in pressure as it exits but pulls along even more air from the environment as it does so, thus generating flow which didn't pass through the fan at all.

Interesting mind you.
 
Even if it was bladeless (which it isn't), and even if it was silent (which it won't be), how in gods name does he expect it to replace aircon?

Pushing around warm air won't make you (or the environment you are in) any cooler.

Yet again, the dyson company introduces crap and call it a breakthrough.
