Blaring music

I don't see the problem in spending loads of money on ICE if you have a base model car.

There isn't a problem with it, but why not just spend the cash on a decent car instead? :p

Not sure what world you guys live on, but a 2002 Seat Leon is regarded as a good car by most people. Maybe not the fastest Leon, and even though its the base model, its still speced more highly than a Zetec Focus (aimed at fox)!

Its not like in putting £1k of ICE in a metro, my car is still worth £4k+. In addition its a perfect base car for good quality ICE, since the speakers are 17cm, and attached to the body of the door cards, so no vibrations and a good baffle.

I never have my music loud enough to hear it outside the car, with the windows open you could probably hear it but not loud enough to even be able to identify the song.

It doesn't bother me that much though to be honest, although the thought going through my head towards the driver does tend to be of the four letter work variety. I'm pretty sure for most its a case of "hey, look at me. Yeah the one with the BOOM BOOM BOOM coming from the boot" same as those with stupidly loud exhausts simply because they are loud.

Those that have various bits on their car vibrating audiably outside the car (9 times out of 10 the back number plate) cause me great amusement.

Because some people don't need a car that's branded good by society. :p

We're more than happy with our rusty old Rovers.

because then you're still stuck with crap audio? It's really not a hard concept. If you want a better car, get a better car. If you want good audio for whilst you're driving, get better ICE. Completely. Seperate. Entities.

Dont worry I wouldnt put £1200 of ICE in a Focus Zetec either or before you start a Mondeo :p

I enjoy my music in the car and couldn't be without it.

I enjoy a good blast on the open road, but around town I usually turn it down as I feel quite self-conscious about what I'm listening to. (It's not the usual thump, thump, thump music that gets played around town- I've usually got the Lighthouse Family, Robbie Williams, Fleetwood Mac etc on!

Plus, I find it difficult to concentrate if its absolutely blasting, and also feel quite vulnerable to being taken by surpise by an ambulance or something.

Not always, I know I'm going to have to junk the nice speakers I bought for the Mondeo for example as they don't fit.

Then you can sell them and still keep some of their value. It's not the total financial blunder you are hooting it to be. Primarily it's down to the person's choice on what they want to spend their money on.

The maximum you are looking to replace is what, 4 component speakers if the size is different?

I like hearing nice music....... Ive had enough of these ***** with their jean paul or other rap/rnb crap who seem to lean out of their window whilst driving with their arm perfectly straight holding the wheel

ROFL is all i can do whilst i burn off and crank up a little rage against the machine :D:D

I seriously couldn't justify spending £1200 on ICE. I will admit I couldn't stand havign no music unless the car was something special. But a ~£200 setup is good enough for me, beats the stock setup's loads and if you buy 2nd hand you can get some fairly decent stuff.

Nice HU with front comps or coaxials would do me fine.

Personally I'd rather have a decent car and good audio than a crap car and great audio... :)

i've got a 12inch sub with a large amp, mids n tweeters and all that stuff but it rarely gets put on loud and i wont have it up loud in traffic of around small area's. The stereo setup is out of my old car and i've had this one 7 years but it still sounds great :)

Usually have my music loud enough for me to hear only, usually crank it up if im in a good mood and a track i really like comes on but then turn it down at the end of the track incase one of my many bryan adams tracks come on :o

It depends on what you define 'base model' to be.

If it's some chav with his £600 Nova/Corsa/Fiesta then it'd look pretty stupid, borderline retarded, for him to stick a £1500+ sound system into it. I don't see the logic in spending more than the car is worth on ICE.

Chav: "Hey dooooooooooood!!! My ICE is the shiznit!!!"
Me: "Yeah, but your car is still a **** heap unemployed chav-charriot!"

The only soundtrack I like is V8.

£200 is nothing for car audio. A good 2nd hand head unit will costs £200 alone. Then add the comps, an amp and sub and you've hit £500 without a problem. Plus cables and labour of laying the wires (if you cant do it), it another £150. This would all be pretty average equiptment.

I certainly hope the music you refer to is the sound of a nice bike engine at full tilt! Now that's what I call proper driving music

hopefully you mean the music coming from literally the engine itself, not being drowned out by wasted energy exiting the exhaust ;)
