Blizzard adds DX11 to WoW

.... you should probably remember that the average age of PC gamers are 28, and I really doubt most jobless kids can manage the monthly sub.

So he should change his post to 28 year old jobless losers who still live with their parents and have wasted the last 5 years of their life?

Aye much better!

Far too many generalisations of WoW players here. Sure, there are a lot of whiny teenagers. But the guild I was in before I quit, everyone who played was between the age of 20-30, and were all either full-time uni students with part-time jobs, or people in full-time employment. So no need to say that everyone who plays WoW is a loser!

As for the comments earlier between KNiVES and Voltage, I don't think Voltage was trying to show off by telling us how much he earns. It was merely a comment relating to how people think all WoW players are losers or have no life.

I tried WoW and just couldn't get into it. I preferred playing text MUDs tbh (Imagica used to be my fave).

EDIT: OMG it's still running... *goes off for some text-based MUD goodness*

It's a shame I haven't found any in the last week or so I've been playing. I only found two folks I enjoyed playing with, one of whom turned into a desperate friend-stalker who wouldn't leave me alone, and the other I convinced to quit WoW and try LotRo instead. £10 well spent, in my opinion. Graphics updates aren't going to solve the core problems with WoW, namely that if you haven't been playing, don't start now. I can't remember seeing one call for raid members that didn't include gear or knowledge requirements, and trying to find a decent guild is more a job than a game - any requests for guild info gets you invites by the score, mostly from adolescent walking zits that need to learn to talk in words, not smileys.

Yeah true. There are a lot of problems with the game. I just resent people saying that everyone who plays WoW is a loser or whatever. I realise there are a lot of idiots etc, and finding a good guild does take time. Not going to try and convince any to quit or play, just annoyed me the general comments.

I see a major graphic update to wow akin to blizzard shooting themselves in the foot.

WIth what WoW has, it does very well, it's low poly for a reason, good game design is making the most out of whats available to you. I've never thought that wow looks 'bad', it's by no means the shining sportscar of games but it's not a rusty old banger either.

One of wows main advantages if the fact that it can be played with a minimum amount of effort with the current gen of machines, why fix something that isn't broke?

They could update it with some minor changes like higher res textures and models, but it could be at a trade off in performance, considering the amount of characters that are always on screen in wow, (raids/instances especially).

My comments were to NEVER generalise anyone. It was merely proving a point that the average age of WOW gamers is far lower than say Crysis players.

Hence their budget for hardware is much less hence why Blizz really cant massively upgrade WOW's engine in case it alienate's these players on limited budgets.

If i somehow managed to offend anyone, that was not my intent.

LotRo is going free-to-play shortly too, although you can pay for items and access to certain things, on the whole though 99% of things will be free. The two games are poles apart though, graphically LotRo trounces WoW in every department except one - WoW will play on just about any hardware which is very handy for some people. There's also far, far more players on WoW and I for one don't like playing a MMO that has a lack of population.

Then again, LotRo is the only one I have installed :p as when I do play it (fairly rare) I enjoy it without spam, without idiots and with exceptionally good storylines.

Sorry Voltage, I didn't mean to make it sound like I said you were trying to generalise anyone. I couldn't find a way to say what I wanted to properly. Sorry, I hope I didn't offend you :)

These days with a few months of WoW subscription you could afford a decent graphics card which could play games very wel.l I think theres no excuse for not being able to play a better graphical version of WoW so please update the whole game with better graphics.

It's just using DX11 renderer for efficency, not actually using any DX11 features.

Nail, head.

WoW is currently bottlenecked by DirectX architecture, the hardware requirement is not that huge. would have made me definately make a jump to Win7 and a DX11 card if the benefits were tangible and I still played.

Alas, I do not ;)
