Blizzard's Real-ID system and the OcUK forums

What I don't understand are players' threats to quit their games over it - you don't show your real name ingame unless you add friends via RealID so I don't see what the problem is - just don't post on the Blizzard forums? Quitting a game over one of its messageboards is overkill, especially when the official forums are terrible anyway. There's so many better alternatives.

One massive overreaction if you ask me. Just don't post if you're so scared of that fat greasy neckbeard hunting you down with his dungeons and dragons model sword.

I'd be against it.

I have my real name in my profile for anyone that wants to know it, but I don't want it to be automatically displayed (and then picked up by search engine robots!) Though I wouldn't mind it if I could chose "Ed.B" or similar, just not my full name.

I just googled my name to see if I could find anything remotely revealing about myself on there, and there is nothing at all. So I wouldn't really care.

No for me. I recently changed my user name (real name, still in my banner below which I need to change lol) to something completely unrelated. The reason being, the majority of search results (apart from my terrible Spider Man review and other random things :p:o) for my name were the countless posts from OcUK.

I thought it was normal practice to sign up with different credentials per site so that a stalker on one site doesn't find you on the next. Just as well I stopped playing WoW 6 months ago.

Blizzard have decided to add users real first and last names to posts on their forums in a bid to control what's posted on there

Perhaps Blizzard should instead make a game that requires an IQ of greater than 5 to play, that will remove the retards from their forums

It doesn't bother me too much.

One of the more annoying things about the World of Warcraft forums is the idiots who post on level one characters trolling/spamming all of the threads, I assume if your name and other characters are displayed now, it solves the problem?

Or is it just your name plus a character of your choice.

Indeed.

Then again, I'd argue they've not exactly made it a lot worse. I remember seeing warlock raid videos in TBC with SB spam.

Though it does anger me somewhat, that classes I like (like SP's and Affl warlocks) are being made "easier" because people can't keep track of 6 things at once and remember breathing is important.

I'd be up if such a system were introduced to these forums, pretty much for the same reasons as Blizzard - would you?

I notice you don't put your real name in your trust details, any reason why? ;)

What a stupid idea by Blizzard.

Remember it's designed to scare 12 year old kids who don't realise how useless a name is.

Now a unique forum Name that's where you can get real dirt :D

I actually have no idea what you just said, but I will assume it has something to do with WoW in-game mechanics or the like :)

If you look back to the days when MMORPGs started to get big (Ultima Online), then there were fewer retards playing and posting ...

As for "Googeling your name", searching for "rypt" is totally pointless as there are only 3 links within the 1st 3 pages of results to anything to do with me, 1 to PH, 1 to OCUK, 1 to XS

They just need to ban bossmods, that would spice it up a bit and require more concentration ;)
