My Mum is having a blood test done, and they have given this to her to take to the hospital:

Does anyone know what some of the non-obvious ticked ones check for?

Also, which ones (they may not be ticked) are relevant for throat and chest related issues?

full blood count
Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate

urea and electrolytes
C reactive protein
Liver function
follicle stim hormone/lutenising hormone

edit - I gave a full answer whilst shine was googling his answers :P

If you're desperate to know your blood type you can buy a self-test kit for about a tenner, google EldonCard :)

Reason they don't tell you bllod type in UK is it costs money.
A test costs money, there is a very simple version of it which doesn't cost much, but any labwork costs money, and gp practices managing their own budget will tend to no carry our unnecessary tests.

If you are in a situation where you need blood and lots of it, you won't be likely to be able to clearly remember or speak to those in power to say what your bloodtype is, so they will test it then and there and as necessary check it. Or give you o-.

You could pay your gp to have it privately done, but mainly on the bank of tests gps run they don't ask for blood typing as it is unnecessary.
Most other developed nations tend to do it as a matter of course, even have it on national id cards or on the driving licence etc, we do things differently.

None of them individually are really relevant for throat/chest related problems. They're pretty generic tests done before more specialised tests.

You don't need to speak because it would be on id and O- blood would kill someone with Oh blood.

Why don't you just go and donate blood? You do something good, and you get to know your blood type.

I really hate needles do don't know if I could manage :(

Had a operation earlier this year where I know for sure that they checked my blood group but I forgot to ask them before going home.
