BLOOMFIELDS CLOCK THE SAME

yeah i dont expect brillant for a £35 cooler. the question is could it deliver "safe" temps which dont boarder on the red zone?

That's gonna depend on your individual chip and how many volts it needs. Maybe you'll be lucky, maybe not. You'll have to suck it and see.

Id hazard a guess at worse case temps would be mid to high 80's depending on vcore.

Now if the cooler is in a good case with good airlow, i would say mid 70's to low 80's depenind again on vcore needed.

Don't forget these would be 100% load temps. So normal running wouldn't get that high.

Im on a mehahelims with viper fans, runs cool but it will only compete with low end water cooling, max i hit on load now is 64c, good water cooling will probably do that all year round.

Aye, at idle bif, my vipers run at 800-900 rpm, extremely quiet, 35c max at idle on the cpu, my two gtx 470's did add a bit more heat into the case, particularly as theyre overclocked, but ive thankfully sorted that.

Yeh the only reason i like my watercooling is, my computer volume wise stays the same whether its idle or under full load, and still stays mid 60's, but knowing iv got the fan power to get it into the 50's if i really wanted, but its not needed.

I agree though the key really no matter what cooling u use, is to sort out proper case cooling, works wonders.

I did think about watercooling, hence why i bought my current case, (room for a triple rad in the roof), but then i got the gaming bug, multiple gpu's, gtx 27's to start, sold them and went multiple 470 gtx, noise isnt an issue tbh, as when im on the system i use a pair of goldring ns1000 noise cancelling headphones, they can block out the noise of a boeing 737, (ive tried it) so noise isnt a big issue for me.:)

Yep mate, they are that good, had to fly to birmingham a few weeks ago for work, im scared of flying tbh, and music helps me, used theese phones with a sansa clip + mp3 player, switched on the noise cancelling and i was sorted, they drown out any droning sound, if you check out the sound city section of the forum, youll find that theyre very highly reccomended.

just make a new thread overclocking for noobs. then make it a sticky. just dont make it to technical and do it for a few boards. most people use asus or gigabyte. would make things a lot easier

then just delete new threads asking the same thing

Don't even need to do it for different boards. The settings are the same. And if someone's considering overclocking, they should be fairly comfortable with accessing their own bios ;)

I never use AUTO on settings, it pointless and leads to higher temperature! I just do the setting and I had done 4.0, 4.2 and 4.4 on i7 920 with vcore under 1.35V. Got all stable 24/7 on all of it. rjk is right afterall, all bloomfield clock the same, no need to change the cpu or upgrade a better i7 950 (no difference at all)

As for cloud84, if you not happy about temperature too hot, your cpu not mount correctly plus a poor airflow in your case. Get a better airflow case, and mount your cpu cooler properly! It happen to me last time as rjk is right I didnt correct it proper at 1st time. But, he did recommend me a better airflow case, which I did.

The real FACT is if you had a very poor airflow case - BSD screen, a very poor mount on the cpu cooler - BSD screen!

A better airflow case, mount it correct, - Result: Non-BSD screen!

I've had three 920 D0s and one C0 that didn't do 4GHz reliably, built about 31 this year, 3.8 was fine but no fine tuning of the vcore or QPI unless over accepted levels/temps (forgot how much but approaching 1.5v) would get 4Ghz, both boards ran other 920s at 4GHz easily with less than 1.35v QPI and less than 1.35v. Cases i use are strictly Antec 900 and 1200 and coolers used were Noctua D14s. I can't remember the mobos in use, i think P6T of some flavour. Obviously not every core is equal and to say every chip will do 4GHz within a certain range is rather... I agree though that going by stats, you stand about the same chance to 4GHz+ whether you have a 920 or a 950 etc..

i got the krypton extreme bundle @ 4.20 and i love it my temps are in the 60 or early 70,s havent seen it hitting the 80 or 90,s yet im glad to say...

sounds like a lot of atrocious batches! i thought mine was a bit rubbish, but after a lot of tweaking got it stable at 4GHz at 1.25v, but for 4.2 i need 1.35, but i'm not too bothered as temps are completely fine.

just fiddled my loops into one, with 2 120.3 rads and temps have dropped about 5*C on cpu temps, gpu's haven't increased in temp at all. chuffed :p

Hello all.

I have been reading this thread and have been working on an CPU overclock of 4.20Ghz.

I have tried what was suggested and still seem to get BSOD when testing with the Lost Planet Benchmark. I have Also tested with OCCT and after 5 minutes of testing the PC froze, i also changed the Temp in OCCT to 100c as was suggested in another thread. I would like to know what Utilities i can use to test my system with to ensure that it is stable after overclocking and if what im using is ok?

I am going to share my Bios settings in the hope that you kind chaps could give me some feedback and tell me were im going wrong :)

Here goes.
