Made the most stupid mistake yesturday.

My saitek eclipse keyboard (which i only bought 2 months ago) was really dusty and generally unclean, so like with all keyboards i washed it under the tap for a few seconds and dried it out as much as possible.

But this time i think i plugged it in to early. Now when i plug it in all the lights come on but none of the buttons funtion and windows says it doesn't recognise the device.

Will it recover ? will saitek replace it ?

You washed it

I think you killed it :(

Ive washed nornmal keyboards before but isnt the eclipse a super douper one with electronics inside?

People wash keyboards under the tap???

No offense meant to the poster, I've just never heard of this before and would never have thought it was a good idea.

I've only ever cleaned my old beige beauty of a keyboard twice, and both times I've completely stripped it down, carefully popping off all the keys so I can get the gunk out from underneath them and wiping it all with a damp cloth with a touch of fairly liquid in the water used to wet it.

But then I guess the advantage of having an ancient 8 year old keyboard is its easier to take apart than the modern ones, and I wouldnt be that bothered if it all went horribly wrong!

PK!

You can get cheap allan keys at local discount shops (you know those ones with rip-offs of brand names, and really badly paid staff, and the owner drives around thinking he's a king). I.e. in Plymouth... CDS or Chaplins.

You may have killed the Eclipse by powering it up before it was dry, but it would be worth sticking it in the airing cupboard to dry out.

You can stick a standard keyboard in the dishwasher, leave it overnight in the airing cupboard and it's as good as new.

The eclipse has electronics inside...

You should unscrew the back, remove the circuit board then clean the rest !!!

ok,

im sorry but this cracked me up.

I thought this was a joke thread, like the water cooled pc one, where the guy silicon sealed his pc then filled it with water lol.

Washed ya keyboard lol

rofl

lol

sorry :p

iv washed a keyboad befor coz i was to lazy to take it apart and plug it back in with out waitin and it was a wireless logiteac keyboad and it works fine

I spilled beer all over an older keyboard i had (just knocked a bottle with my mouse, ok? :P) , obviously didnt work as soon as id done it so left it out for a few days to dry, plugged it in again and everything worked fine.

Would have left it a bit more, but you should be able to get another as it should have a 1 year warranty, not that you deserve another one haha :P (no offence, just a little dig at ya :D).

yeh i don't deserve another one, cleaning it under the sink was ok but i was retared to plug it back in after 30 mins :/

i'll take it apart tonight and dry it out 100%. i've e-mailed saitek support and hopefully they will give me an RMA number.

update: i've given the keyboard a good dry out, now when i plug it into the computer it recognises that it's a saitek usb keyboard etc..

and the caps lock lights etc...work properly now. but when i press a key it does the wrong thing, for example i will press "W" and it will write w590udghi0e9- or i press "T" and it brings up windows help.

is this fixable ?

Well I'd leave it a bit longer if I were you; it's obviously still drying and working to some extent, so give it a chance :)

You told them you washed it under the tap, and youve asked for an RMA? . I think that one is heading for file 13 . . .
