Blue screen of death

OK will report back if it does it again (something for you to look forward to ;)). Thanks for all your help Deathwish.

edit: does this mean it ain't a hardware problem, ie. is that solely software related, or if it BSODs again could it still be hardware related?

It sounds like it was the firewall.

I installed the firewall software when I got this nF3 board. Had no end of problems with BSODs and long boot times, so I uninstalled it. It seems to be universally hated, terrible software.

Since then I've had no problems with the board - at the moment it's been running on 100% CPU load for 8 days. nForce gear can be stable :)

Yes i've heard lots of problems with the Firewall, its best to just switch it off.

And im sure nForce setups can be stable, its the act of getting their that annoys me. I know this might sound a bit fanboyish but take an Intel setup, I have never had a problem with drivers etc.

Well unfortunately my problems didn't end there. I got a couple of different BSODs after that whilst trying to install Rome: Total War, which ultimately culminated in not being able to load up windows due to an Unmountable Boot Volume (just got to the Windows loading screen and then went into this BSOD). I've formatted and reinstalled everything, hopefully this time it'll be more stable. And I think I'll give rtw a miss for now ;).

edit: by everything I don't mean the nv firewall, nor the ide sw drivers - those I left out as per your advice :)

I was getting BSOD after I formatted my Hdd. No real pattern to them and the error number did not have any relevance on the Windows website. In the end through frustration I decided to uninstall SP2. 5 days later and I have not had a BSOD in that time, yet........

well fingers crossed I have been on it most of the day and no BSODs yet (do have sp2 installed as well). Litmus test will be installing rtw but I wanna enjoy it for a few days first ;)
