Hopefully this is acceptable in this area!

Slight follow-up from this thread ( http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17697312 ), friend of mine has an Orange SPV M700 and wants a small pocket-sized GPS device (Bluetooth) for about the £30-£40 mark.

Seen LOADS on auction site, but is totally lost over this 32 channel, TTFF, etc (he does a lot of hiking and just wants to plot his route into GoogleEarth).

Am I right in thinking that he can buy ANY of these small GPS units, and so long as he buys the right software for his phone (M700), he'll be able to do that?

What about line of sight? Will he have to hold the GPS all the time for the satellites to see his GPS?

Anyone got any recommendations?

Why buy as gps reciever when it has one already ??

Well he's had it about 2 week and can't get it working at all, plus has been told it's not that good anyway. He's downloaded the OrangeMaps thing (got 10 days I think free trial) but didn't rate it, plus he wants to be able to let his wife have a small GPS receiver so she can use it in the car with her phone (Some nokia).

I run mine with the in built reciever with Tomtom navigator 6 and it works a dream.

Wonder if it's faulty then? It definately works, it's had the OrangeMaps thing on for a few days, but he's "obtained" TomTom and nothing can be found so has assumed the the GPS is locked to OrangeMaps. But if you're saying you've got it working, then will go back to the drawing board.

Has he done the regedit thing and set the ports ?? You can download a shareware copy of PHM regedit.

I can 100% guarantee he hasn't so will tell him about that. Thanks Bear, hopefully that will do the trick.
