Hi all,

My next car will have Bluetooth so I am able to stream music from my phone.

For those who have this, how is the reliability and quality of it? Compared to say using auxiliary port or USB.

Cheers

which car?

early bmws for instance have bluetooth but dont support streaming, so if you let us know the vehicle specifics we can let you know yay or nay

in answer to the audio quality and reliability, its reasonable quality and very decent reliability (at least for me)

I steam music from my phone through an aftermarket Bluetooth adapter which plugs into the stereo CD changer port. Quality is excellent, no different to CD to my ears. Steering wheel buttons also function to skip tracks.

Used the VW streaming system on a 2013 Scirocco and 2013 Golf GT I had on demonstration for 4 days each, it worked perfectly everytime, this was using a HTC One Android device.

Good to hear :) especially about the HTC one as that is what I have.

Saves messing around with all the cables, probably use NFC as well to turn bluetooth on/off when entering car to save battery.

Cheers guys

I have it, but due to the lack of control, the lack of media options (no album art, no videos), and the lack of media info I don't bother using it. I just use the HDD instead.

I do leave the connection open for passengers who want to play their audio, and the quality is ok.

I use Bluetooth mainly for playing Spotify in the car. Downside as said is lack of album art, but it's not a biggie.

I have a double din Pioneer X3500 which i fitted and the bluetooth audio is pretty good. Reliability has been pretty good and it connects nice and quickly.

Quality seems decent enough but to be honest in a car with a lot of back ground noise its not like i could tell the difference too much anyway.

I upgraded the head unit on an older car to one that supported bluetooth and it's very reliable. The sound quality I would say is equal to AUX but not as good as CD.

My car has Bluetooth audio streaming (BMW 3 series) and it's great, very reliable, although there's a short lag, maybe 0.25s, which means it's not suitable for watching videos whilst streaming the audio via Bluetooth. I'm sure this will be the case regardless of the manufacture.

The BMW system supports track name, artist name, & album name, at least for iPhones running IOS 5+, and the audio controls (fast forward/rewind/skip/pause/play etc.) all function too. Not sure about other manufacturers' phones.

Latest bluetooth standards support bandwith of 3mbit/s+, so sound quality is a non issue. Fairly sure streaming music over a2dp is digital so will use the car radio dac, but stand to be corrected.

The issue is not a lack of basic controls, but more the ability to search/browse album, artist, song, genre, playlist etc.

That is indeed the limitation of the system, but to be honest not one that bothers me as I tend to listen to either whole albums or audiobooks when I'm on a journey so no need to search much if at all.

Generally I just turn on a radio station and listen to it, DI.FM or kisstory or something. I don't care for searching for tracks so as long as I can go to the next track from the buttons on the wheel or the stereo I will be happy.

Interested to see how well DAB works anyway and what stations are worthwhile listening to on there.

So the bluetooth sounds like crap, I think something is wrong. Calls are fine, but when playing the music the speakers are just extremely tinny, not giving it anywhere near its full power. You wouldn't want to listen to it.

Going to try a different phone tomorrow to see if that is the problem.
