Blueyonder/Telewest speed upgrades

Yeah, I have a SB3100 and I read that the max I'll get is about 8.5-9Mb/s from it. Not much of a problem, but if they're replacing them for free, then cool. :)

my router is only 10base-t on the WAN side anyway.
There's a post on the discussion group from a user with an SB3100 who's only getting 5.5Mb/s max and the consensus seems to be that the modem is the bottleneck.

On the plus side he persevered and is getting it replaced but I think you'll have to wait until the actual upgrade and then provide speed tests showing you're not getting the nominal speed. I doubt calling in advance is going to get you anywhere.

We had some disruption to phone and internet last night, still seem to be on 1mbps at the moment though (Mortlake region)

So is North London/camden on any list ?

he asked him knowingly

subcribed to thead but not had time to read all.

just spoke to telewest, i live in yorkshire and he would not tell me the upgrade date, so io said is it likely to be 2006 and he said yes. so i have downgraded to 512k until then.

hmmm, telewest is certainly upto something in the chelmsford area. The net is up and down more than an essex girls <ahem>

If you selfcare upgrade from 2mb to 4 mb would you pay for that month if its the same month as the upgrade ?

There's been a fair bit of discussion about this from 2mb users, as once the £35 price comes into effect for 4mb you may as well upgrade if you've not already been "done".

The date at which the £35 price comes into effect has slipped a bit, from October at first to Oct/Nov and now Nov/Dec. This is annoying the hell out of a few sad whingers on the newsgroups who obviously have no life :D

Some seem to like it whilst others are cursing it.

Frankly I don't think it does anything you can't achieve via well-respected, free products such as AVG and ZoneAlarm.

Just spent 10 mins on the phone to customer services regarding the lack of reduction in costs to people who are on 4Mb and may not be upgraded till Jan 2006, the lady informed me there was nothing she could do, but did agree they should have made 2Mb & 4Mb £35 a month then started with the 'free' upgrades. She has credited me £15 and told me to call her extension for every month it takes until the upgrade comes, and she will credit me £15 each time.

At least TW customer service can be resonable. :D

I upgraded to 4Mb in the meantime (from 2Mb) so it'll give me some fun until I get upgraded in about a month to 10Mb. Phoned up tech support so they could send the signal to my modem rather than wait 24hours and also asked if the old SB3100 modems will be getting upgraded, he said he'd send out a support guy to replace mine in 2 weeks. :)

What area does St. Helens / Liverpool fall under?

I am hoping these upgrades will improve my packet loss issues

id love to know when liverpool is getting upgraded as there is no mention of us on the update page :( i did read somewhere that we are some how linked to New Malden which finishes on the 26th of september. only time will tell but i highly doubt that the upgrade will happen then. bet liverpool ends up being start of 2006 as it would be just my luck :)
