Blueyonder/Telewest speed upgrades

Just had this email

Dear customer,

To enable us to make improvements to your service, including the recently announced speed increases, we will soon be carrying out some work on the network in your area.

To avoid any inconvenience we wanted to let you know in advance of this happening, as it may cause some minor disruption to your Internet service.

Disruption to your Internet service may occur at some point between 18th October and 7th November 2005. You should only be affected for a period of around 2 hours between 10am and 5pm on the day the work is carried out.

For more information, visit our blueyonder service status page (http://www.blueyonder.co.uk/status).

We apologise in advance for any inconvenience that this may cause you.

Regards,

The team at blueyonder

where in the west mid's are you mate??

hi schnipps
spoke to blueyonder yesterday they told me all upgrades are done in newcastle area and will be switched on before the end of this month.first person i spoke to said i was on 10meg now according to his screen but he spoke to another person who said before end of month.
regards ian.

Hi people i've got the upgrade too 10mb ,the problem is i'm only getting 5mb through my netgear 624 wireless router is there any tweaks i can do so i can get the full 10mb.I can only use the router wireless so any help would be grateful.

I am on one of the Croydon Ubr's and have been getting bad speeds.

If I check late at night after a heavy gaming session it pretty close to the 10MB mark and also the same in the morning.

Evenings it can drop right off the lowest I have seen was 2MB  so I called BY Customer Support and they tried a few things without any luck then told me it was a Signal to Noise issue and they had raised it as a fault.
Apparently affecting all the Croydon Ubr's.

My speed has gradually got better but its still not right so I will be phoning them again as the customer rep offered compensation :D

Give them a call and see what they have to say.

Steve

The reason they said you were on 10meg as I found out was because all the admin computer systems in the areas that are ready to go live have been changed so the old 2mb and 4mb codes are now one amalgamated code. I suppose to the CSR at the end of the phone they would think you had already been done if they did not know any better. Quite why they are waiting (or saying) the end of the month is beyond me 'cause it's all ready to rock 'n' roll now.

Its like any CS, they havent got a clue. Try dealing with Sky CS, that will have you dribbling at the mouth with fury. Companies just do not update their staff enough with new info/changes.

hi.
you are right about them not updating their staff.
there was a blueyonder engineers van on the west road in newcastle and i asked him about upgrades.he did not even no they were increasing speeds.
cheers ian.

FAO Anyone in Maidstone

Have Blueyonder upgraded the internet yet? I'm still getting 1mb speeds even though the maintenance page says that the UBR in Maidstone have been upgraded.

Reading this thread a lot of you are impatience, the disrutpion will be worth it when we are all on 10meg.

anybody have a rought idea when wigan will be upgraded.

I called them up yesterday, informing them that although I've been upgraded, I haven't managed to get more than 6.5mb on any speed test that I've tried. They told me that my line is definately 10mb enable, so there shouldn't be a problem.

They said that there aren't any reliable speed tests out there for a 10mb connection and I should try downloading a few large game demos, too see if I can get a faster connection that way.

I've scanned my machine for any spyware, shut anything that could be using the internet down, but still no speed improvement.

Does anyone know of a speed test that will give me a true rating.
