Blueyonder/Telewest speed upgrades

This seems to be the case everywhere, TW aren't saying you will always get 10mb just that that is the maximum you will get, contention will reduce your throughput, try the same test at 3am on a week night and you'll probably get close to 10mb

Does that apply with the 2Mbps line? As that was always at full speed.
Loosing close to 5Mbps is a lot, i can understand loosing 1Mbps but 5 is very strange.

Thanks

Tbh I don't really know, there is a lot of conjecture around this upgrade at the moment and this seems to be the most viable explaination, there is also the issue of source. Not all servers will be able to give you a 10Mb download so to properly test it you will need to work within your ISP, maybe using one of TWs only servers like to games patch ones, that will give you a better idea of the true capability of your line.

Tried Dan Elwell's Broadband Speed Test.
Download result is exactly the same as adlsguide it will not go past 5.5Mbps
Upload is spot on.
Pings are still top rate.

Hopefuly other people in the london are can see if they have the same problem.
Damn have to shoot to work

Also if this is a recent upgrade it might not be totally sorted yet, some people were saying it took a while for the entire 10Mb capacity to come on stream

Hells Bells, you're like Victor Meldrew on Tamazipan you are :D
Give it a rest eh?

I was making a genuine comment. I've been reading about loads of problems in Croydon on the newsgroups and so found it interesting that he'd not had any issues. Either he's been lucky or they've now sorted this out.

I'm interested in any problems experienced as they could potentially delay the rollout.

Err, not it's not, there are plenty of reports from people getting much closer to the 10Mb theoretical limit on the newsgroups.

From what I've seen, virtually every person reporting speeds around the 5Mbps mark has a 10Base-T connection somewhere in the chain which is producing a bottleneck.

Plantboydude, are you using a router twixt the modem and your PC, and if so what model is it? If this has a 10Base-T WAN port on it, this could be the problem.

Yeah that's what i read previously, it says starting at 10am for 6 hours but i was hoping they might do it quickly, im just being impatient :p
I hate to tell you this

but it said the same thing yesterday :D

Either it hasn't been updated coz they've blown up the UBR or its two days work or its wrong. I've got my fingers crossed for you anyway :)

Yesterdays UBR upgrades were for 01, 02, and 03, todays are 04, 05, and 06 (from what i read). So if its on time i should get it today. :)

Depends

And is actually why I was asking, if compleation of the UBR upgrades coincide with the speed increase itself. Gillingham is the first one I have paid attention to and wanted to know if the speed increase comes on line right away. Someone over on another forum said they reckoned it could be up to two weeks from completion of the work to the actuall spead increase. But just like everything else its speculation.

Ah right i understand now. I was assuming that as soon as the UBR upgrade completes the speed upgrade would be put into place as well. Oh well, i'll be keeping an eye on my modem daily so ill report back as soon as i get upgraded.

M8 you hit the nail on the head.. Cable modem to ICS computer is connected via a 10Base-T Nic. Rest of the network is 100/1000.
Gonna bring down the ICS computer and stick in 100Base-T one.
Thanks, will let you know.

I see the ubr06 has been upgraded today. Thats the one i'm on, how long after does it take to see my download rate increase.

Do I need to reset my modem?
