Blueyonder/Telewest speed upgrades

hi.
my area has been upgraded for two days now and all blueyonder will say as soon as possible.
if your modem is switched off apparently you do not need to do anything.
they also say you will be notified by email when it is live.
cant understand why some areas are upgraded and switched on almost straight away.
regards ian.

Croydon all fine here, i didnt know it was hapening, i thought London was last on the list, but didnt check for croydon. Only saw the connection before going to bed last night, just got home today, quick check speed still 480kb/s may do a speed test later.

M8 you hit the nail on the head.. Cable modem to ICS computer is connected via a 10Base-T Nic. Rest of the network is 100/1000.
Gonna bring down the ICS computer and stick in 100Base-T one.
Thanks, will let you know.

Well change the NIC, Adslguide still doesnt rate it at its top speed.
Dan Elwells test rated the line at 9444 however its now dropped to 3000+

So i decided to download an Ati driver from ati, it downloaded at 1.18MB/s
Took about 12sec to get 24MB... nice.
Did this formula 10Mbps is 10,000,000bits/8 = 1,250,000bytes / 1024 = 1,220.70KB/Sec / 1024 = 1.19MB/Sec So if you have a 10Mbps line I.Explorer should report the download speed at 1.19MB/Sec

The speed Test sites must be very busy at the mo.

Anyway gonna keep an eye on the line for now.

Thanks Telewest and Thanks Vertigo

Yep, you should be on the Gillingham UBR :)

If they turn the new bandwidth on as soon as the upgrade is done you should see it tomorrow :)

MB

Am on the Chatham, Gillingham border here, but i come under Chatham.

Same normal 1mb speed here.

Will keep ya posted though :D

Hmmm, got the email saying I've been upgraded this morning at 10am, but I still don't see any speed increases?

Any reliable way to test?

Sorry if it's been posted before but the thread is huge now...

Hmmm, I'm only roughly getting double what i was before when I had a 2mbit line.

Any ideas how I can check if my modem can support 10mbit? It's a pretty old Motorola Surfboard and I've had it for years...

I don't mind putting a 20Mb or so file online for people to use as a speedtest.

It'll be "real world" too, since it'd be on a 'typical website' hosting server.

Depending on what I've got lying around, it might actually be a half-useful 20Mb file . I could zip up my collection of 'funny pics', for example (www.twobeds.com/funny).

West London done! Didn't realise even though I was talking to a mate about it and didn't catch on and I got a letter but didn't realise until I saew my download at 400Kbs!
Yep, all working at 4mbps for me on the Mortlake exchange here

Gillingham ubrs 7 and 8 being done on monday, so is also the network upgrade too, once those 2 out the way, we should see some life in the bandwidth on monday the 3rd oct.

Until the latter is done, gills wont see any increases, hope this helps.
Look on maintenance section, you will see all there, my mate works for telewest, and says the last thing they do, which is *** most people wait for is the network upgrade to cope with the 10mbit.

Yes finally BY's website is listing Network Upgrades in Solihull....on Oct 6th..no mention of UBR though..so it cant be long now :-)

Lost conectivaty yesterday and although its back today i have lots of packet loss this morning (posting this from work)

Phoned them up and they can't get an engineer to me till tuesday due to all the upgrade work... hopefully it will come back later with uber speeds in place. I actually didn't know about the speed upgrade, first i knew was the email thats been sent to me today and the loss of conectivaty yesterday.

I thought this thread was about the last speed increase :o

hi.
after your ubr was upgraded how long did you have to wait for upgrade to be switched on.in my area ubrs were upgraded 4 days ago.
cheers ian.

Whilst network upgrades are, in some cases, a necessary precursor to the speed upgrades, the scheduled date of the latter cannot be deduced from that of the former.

In some cases it may be a few days between them but in many others it will be far longer. Solihull may well be scheduled for a network upgrade in a few days time but we already know that the speed upgrades won't arrive until November at the earliest I'm afraid, or potentially late October if they get ahead of themselves.
