If you have a Surfboard 3100 then yes you'll need a resplacement as these can't handle the full 10Mb

MB

yep. 3100's only have a 10bT link to the pc which would mean you will never get 10meg with network overheads.

log onto the newsgroups, tell them you want a swapout and they will arrange for a techy to come and swap your modem for one that will be more suitable.

if people are getting bad pings then ask for the upstream channel to be changed. makes a massive difference. im on 4meg and was getting pings of around 100 to uk cs:s servers. they changed my upstream channel and now im lookin at pings of 15-20 for decent servers :)

I got my SB3100 changed yesterday, they gave me a smaller black SB5100.

Hopefully if Fife is getting turned on next week, Dundee should be around the same time or shortly after. :)

How did you go about getting your SB3100 changed?

i only got BY about 3 weeks ago, but they gave us an SB4200, but everyone else i know has the smaller black version...

can the 4200 handle the 10meg upgrade? (whenever that comes? :p)

Yep

Whats the average d/l speed for someone on 4mb then?

I currently get about 100kbps, but I don't think the rule is to times that by four?

Theoretically, just shy of 500kB/s is the max so 450 should be attainable depending on your d/l source of course

Well I have been on 4Mb since it was released and on NG or a good website I always seem to get 470-490K/s. It's usually toward the 490 but recently it has been going down, hope this changes when they get everything sorted.

I downloaded the city of villans beta test from fileplanet the other day at max 615k per second on a 4mb blueyonder in yorkshire!! it took 1.15 to download 2.5 gig :)

That makes no sense at all... 615k would make it 5Mbps not 4Mbps
