Blueyonder/Telewest speed upgrades

My first post!!!

Been reading this site a lot lately and have been keeping a constant eye on the upgrades!
I live in Walsall and have yet to recieve the upgrade to 10 mb.
I was until saturday gone on 2mb.

I phoned customer service and explained that it said in their FAQ that people who are on 2mb can go to 4mb for the same price of £35, If they haven't got the 10mb yet!!! Heres a link , Read ALL of number 4!!! http://anniebrion.myby.co.uk/evenfaster-faq.html#para1

Now it tells you to use Selfcare, which I did but got an email saying it would take upto 48 hours. Having seen on here someone ringing and getting it done I rang Customer services Sunday morning and said I wanted the broadband Elite 4mb! They told me it would be £50 a month!!! I then pointed them in the way of the FAQ link above and they then realised I was correct and it would only be £35 a month. She did it there and then and Double checked my new price and it was £35 a month for the 4mb Elite!
Anyway I rebooted within 5 minutes and there it was, 4mb!!! Wahey (wish I'd known earlier though)

So if you ask for an upgrade and they say it'll be £50 point them to the FAQ and tell them to do it and they'll see that there is no increase in price!!!

Also before I did this I phoned Technical, who haven't a clue, they said it'd be £50 a month and that the 4mb speeds would be dropping to 2mb before the main 10mb upgrade! NOT A ******* CLUE!!!!!!!!!

Why can't companies keep each other informed about what's going on?

One more thing,
Since upgrading to 4mb I've rarely been maxing out on downloads (torrents)
Unless I download 4 or 5 files!
Even if the files have over 400 seeders!

If this is how It's going to be then I don't see the point of 10mb and may well drop it back down to the cheaper 4mb in two months(minimum Elite time)

It seems we need big improvements to upload speeds before we upgrade the download speeds again!!! For example if on 10mb then an upload of 2mb would be ok!

I know, I was just speaking from personal experience!
Where do you max out? Edonkey or Kaaza? What are they like now? I haven't been on them for over a year!

Regardless, there's no point in throwing a temper tantrum like a 3 year old as it's not going to make Telewest roll the upgrades out any faster. I'm sure they are working as hard on it as we can reasonably expect... BTW - Telewest are the first to roll out these sort of internet speeds. These 24mb connections are so limited I'm not even comparing it to them. In relation to your standard ADSL services, which are still at around 2mb max, Telewest are actually more competitive than other companies.
The point is that they'll be competitive once the upgrades have been rolled out. Beforehand they were getting less and less competitive. £50 for 4Mb and £35 for 2Mb was starting to look very expensive and so they had to provide speed uplifts in order to retain customers.

Try usenet or an FTP server with decent bandwidth. P2P file-sharing will hardly ever max out your connection.

I dont know anyone with a 10Mb upload or even 2 x 5Mb! /agree

But 5x2Mbps, or 10x1Mbps. Hell, maybe even 40x256kbps, because no torrent ever has 40 seeds on it. :p

The point's (loosely) right, P2P isn't the best of speed tests, purely because you're dependant on the users at the other end having a decent upload speed (or wanting to donate a big enough share of their speed to upload to you).
A good torrent, provided it has plenty of seeds (think some Linux distro, or some game that's distributed over bittorrent), is as good as any though.

On the BY gamefiles site I always get the top download speed it's just that I don't get it many other places! On my torrents I have 1:3 share ratio which is quite good really so if I'm not gonna be hitting the top speeds with 10mb I think I'll be just as happy with the cheaper 4mb!
Is the 4mb £20 or £25?

My 2mb is running crap too, has been running rubbish for the past 2 weeks!
max DL speed is 120kbps :S
Yet on there site it doesnt say anything about them upgrading in my area anytime soon :(

It's the last day before the change freeze, so after today only emergency work will be carried out until after New Year.

Telewest have managed to rollout speed uplifts to only one area in nearly two months and updated the evenfaster page only once.

Nice going Telewest, YOU SUCK!!!!!!!!

You will be done when Wolves is done mate

It said on the sit a couple of weeks ago about maintenance being carried out
round here due to "upgrading the network"

But still nowt
