BMW 130i M Sport

Surely you could get a rather nice Audi A3 or A4 for that money?!

edit: yep, 5 door A3 Sportback 3.2 quattro for £23,500.

Still outrageously pricey, but 250bhp ( ) and far better than the 1 series!

Haha, yes I thought that was a rather crafty ninja edit too! I have a tendency to forget to read entire threads before posting :o

The Golfs definately are quite bloaty - they're big cars, so much so that it came as a bit of a shock when I got mine. I guess it is because - in reality, the Golf is a family car rather than anything else, so needs a proper boot and proper back seats.

Mine is actually the "family" car in our house and copes with it extremely well - from pushchair and shopping to the family out for a meal.

Boot space is slightly smaller than my previous MK4 Golf and while rear leg room is reduced, it seems to cope very well.

Couple that with the performance the 130 offers and it's a potent combination.

lol, I love how it looks

You simply have to see mine in the dusk, lights on, dash glowing, engine burbling
I fall in love every time I see it :)

But thats just me!
You do realise almost every car looks acceptable in those conditions(engine aside) God damn Seicentos looks nice at dusk etc

I've only driven 1 BMW 1 series, a loan 120D whilst my car was in for its service. I can honestly say I hated the thing, the looks, the interior, the engine, the handling, all of it, especially the indicator controls! No doubt this is much better, but you can get much more desirable cars than this for the money.

My mum's got a 120D. I've never driven the thing but I've been in it plenty of times. Ugly , boring and hearse are three words that spring to mind. That being said, as has been suggested I'd much prefer one to say a Pulsar (or something like a Civic)

Obviously the way it's been driven-coz mine still brings a grin to my face when i really toe it!

My step-dad drove it for a while and he prefers it to his MkIV V5 Golf! He loves the thing. More power, better drive in fact. After he sold the golf he was going to have the 120 and let my mum get a new car. I'm only going on looks and lets be honest the interior is bland at best.

Oh yeah, and it's my mum driving it! She's hardly going to tan it is she! :D

The Golfs interior is hardly inspiring though is it?

I looked at the MK5 Golf before choosing the BMW - prefer it in all ways.

Oh don't get me wrong, I'm not having a dig. Just speaking from my personal experience of the car. And no, the Golf's not inspiring at all.

OT, the Mk Vs are poorly built aren't they (interior that is). Had a friend who had one as a hire car. Said it was 'plasticky'. Not as nice as the Mk IV I'm told.

:D No offence taken at all mate :D

I had the MK4 which was what prompted me to look at the MK5, damn was i dissappointed in what i saw!
Got to agree about the interior - the MK4's is sooo much nicer than the MK5's

I dont like Jap cars really so that put paid to them, i priced up the Audi A3 Sport and with the options i wanted came to around £1000 more than the price i got my BMW for.

As said before - it's all about what floats your boat, the 120d happens to float mine BIG TIME ;)

Do you get a limited slip differential with the M Sport kit?

I know the 130i Sport doesn't come with one as standard and as such has some serious issues getting the power down.

Also BMW are releasing the 3dr version very soon and it looks great.

Does anyone else share the opinion that BMW have moved from probably some of the best looking well balanced designs to possibly the ugliest range from a quality manufacturer. Passed a main dealer the other day and have to say put their range in a carpark together and there really isnt much pretty there imo. The bloated rears on the fives and ones, the back wheels look inches smaller than the fronts. Base models with smaller wheels and less tyre look worse. They had a truly awful 116i in white, god that looked like a dog.

The top models look fantastic, a friend o fmine showed me around his brand new 55 plate 730D sport the other day, and it was superb. The M5 also looks great.

The new 3 series isnt bad as long as it isnt a base model. All the base models do look rubbish, but then they have always been a bit like that. A E46 M3 is a hard car to beat looks wise.

With the exception of the recently facelifted 7, which looks awesome, I am not a fan of the asthetics of any current BMW.

Oddly the new 7 appears to be moving back towards the E39/E46 styling, which IMHO is BMW's finest hour.
