I know many on here love BMW's. But i wanted to know if anyone has had a330ci and what they thought of its performance.

A friend has one and i thought it was a very quick and tidy car, im not sure what age it is but its worth about 12k and has some nice fancy factory stereo in it.

My reason for this post is more to do with gauging my cars performance in respect to this car. If i pulled away from it with ease is my car 'fast'?

Stupid question i know, sorry.

Its not a fast car, but it is certainly no slouch. Performance is more than adequate and yes, if you were pulling away from it your car is what most would call a fast car. It takes fairly decent metal to show up a 330ci.

Or a remapped VAG 2.0TDI............ dons fire retardant apron:p

A remapped 170 could keep up with it, not sure if it would pass it.

The 330ci is a nice car with big fat leather seats, chunky steering wheel and nice ride over other sporty coupes. The speed is no way slow, 0-60 around 7 seconds but you would struggle against cars like a Cupra, A3 T, R32, even an edition 30 Gti!

If you want luxury and performance they are good, but you can get better performing cars in 2 litre form and save per year on tax.

0-60 in the mid 6's and it wouldn't have any problems against a Cupra, A3 T (Octavia vRS) or and R32.

Really good cars but not quick under 90mph.

90mph onwards they really do shift and your Golfs/Leons/CTR's etc etc blah blah will get left behind.

RWD lovelyness and yummy E46 materials/build make it a great motor.

The problem is Moorron you're in OcUK Motors and the definition of 'fast' is quite skewed.

The 330Ci has a 0-60 time of 6.3 seconds. Evo managed 5.9 when they tested it but I've no idea how so we'll ignore that. It's a quick car and no, a remapped 4 pot diesel won't keep up with it.

Neither will a 204bhp 330d.

you seem to be quoting figures and performance for a 204bhp 330Cd.....the i is much quicker as fox pointed out. It will have no problem keeping up with and probably pulling ahead of any of the hatches you mentioned (especially the **** poor golf ed30)

I've seen a lot of 6.7-7 second sprints irl and on YouTube. I am talking about the E46.

I've seen an R32/A3 3.2 V6 pass many 330s from standstill.

I am not saying it is slow and it is not the diesel I am on about. Just that the OP should know it is not a mega fast car passing cars like I mentioned with ease, but it is definatly fast.

Just spend £200 remapping the vag turbo's to ~270bhp then wave goodbye :D

my neighbour has an LCR and he bought a 330ci with the intention of selling the LCR, but sold his 330ci and kept the remapped LCR while he looks for something else he likes to replace the LCR

he wasn't taken with it and it wasn't as fast as his LCR, it did have a nice note when he booted it though

Have you seen the figures of a remapped 170? With a 0-60 around 7.8-8 seconds and the ability to have 220+ bhp after a remap I am sure it will be able to hang around it at least!

a stage 1 170 will see about 205bhp, haven't seen any stage 2 figures

edit: just found some you can see 240bhp from a 140bhp tdi with stage 2...but will cost you the best part of 2 grand to get there...money that shouldn't be spent on a diesel

Ahem, i beg to differ...... having driven back to scotland from Jez's following the said remapped golf i could not close the gap on the motorway!!! Experience tells us that figures never tell the whole story Mr Fox. Although the 330i in question is an auto. However the point does stand! I miss that golf somedays lol
