BMW 330i - Is this dent easy to fix?

They are honouring the claim on 100k+ 2000 plate cars. Do you know something I dont...?

My mums e46 had an issue with its rear suspension (will have to check with Dad to find out exactly what) but I'm pretty sure BMW did not honour it.

The car's done 70k ,2 owners from new (my Dads business followed by my mum) and has a Full BMW history up until late 07 and a detailed garage history thereafter.

Unless it was a torn subframe its irrelevent - we are talking about a known and acknowledged manufacturing issue.

I'm pretty sure it was the subframe (I recall my Dad saying something along the lines of "Old Mini!" :D ) as I say though, I'm unsure and will ask him next time I see him. :)

take bumper off, 8mms and prob 1-2 clips at sides, remove black bumper insert, and each side there will be 45-50 size torx going thro the beam, undo them and pull off!

heat gun around the damaged part of bumper, simply push it back out hold till cold or spray with water = job done

That seems a little expensive given the age/mileage and the dent, even if it is totally mint the condition should not affect the price too much over shabbier examples, use this to your advantage and find a gem amongst the rubbish. Looks like a decent spec but there is some bartering to be had there in my opinion, it needs to be nearer £5k really.

Thanks for the reply.

I haven't really been able to find many others at this price point on PH/AT, though I did think the price was a bit high. Is there somewhere else I should also be looking?

My point Jez was that turning down a minter because spending the next 5 months searching through a pile of utter junk owned by people in dodgy areas of Birmingham might yeild another minter for 500 quid less is often a bit pointless. It's hardly a lot of money for what it is anyway, so if its otherwise spot on (And not having seen it I have no idea if this particular car is or not) why not?

I think the facelift saloons had reinforced mounts - so shouldn't be an issue on them.

This specific vehicle is listed on the DVLA database as an 01 registered car therefore I assume it to be a distict possibility that this car is 'early'. The manufacturing cut off is 01. The registration hiatus doesn't nescessarily mean this is a late car. I've seen this issue on a black four door 328 facelifted registered in 02 (it was me who found the issue, customer was complaining of clunks etc). Given the nature of the problem and the sketchy BMW repair option (generally I've found this to be freely repaired by BMW on cars that are 100% dealer maintained only) I would take no chances.

If there is any exessive diff carrier movement when taking up drive then you must assume the worst. The diff carrier bushes also wear out which also allows exessive movement and manifests itself the same way visually, but, costs only a small amount less to repair than the torn body issue, hence my offer suggestion back up there. Go in low. If it proves to be solid and a later build then you could be perfectly ok. It also may well have had the issue come up and already have been repaired in which case again you should be fine. The diff and carrier should hardly move at all outside tolerance (+/- 1 degree lateral/horizontal rotation).

That is all ;)

No, but the fact it is a facelift car DOES mean it is a later car.

No - you have not. There are NO facelifted 328i E46's in existence. The 328i was discontinued when the M52 engine series was replaced with the M54 engine series in July 2000. Whilst late registered cars always crop up, the 3 Series Saloon facelift did not take place until late 2001 - over a year after the M52B28 was discontinued.

Just spoken to the guy and found out that one of the parking sensors isn't working. Sometimes it's fine but other times it doesn't work at all. Is this a common problem?

He said he bought a replacement sensor but hasn't fitted it yet.

Is there anything else major I should look out for?

Thanks.

Find out how long he has had it. How many previous owners? Has it got a complete BMW history with invoices? Invoices for any other work? Has it always had quality tyres fitted? You are looking for any evidence that its been owned by somebody who would cut corners or take a cheap option to fix something. If you see any evidence of this, walk.

Holy Jesus Fox relax a little bit. It might have been a 325 or a 330 tbh I cannot recall which and don't really care. It wasn't badged. The fact remains I have seen it first hand on what you would call a late facelifted body.

Hair dryer might allow you to gently warm the dent and it may pop out with a little pushing from behind.

PDC not working could be the reversing switch or perhaps the control unit going funny, you can pick them up on a familiar auction site fairly cheaply :)

Cheap and easy to fix, just replace the bumper. Less than 500 quid all in including spraying I would imagine.
£500 are you nuts?
Should be doable for £50 from a paintless dent removal guy.

Use a PDR guy specifically, not these we do all aspects of vehicle appearance.

I agree there, depends what the value of the money is to the OP i guess :)
