bmw 330i?

The Aero is a great car, it looks great and has a good, solid engine which can effortlessly overtake most cars (including 330s) with ease.

You can effortlessly overtake a Ferrari Enzo if its travelling at a constant speed. You won't be effortlessly overtaking any 330's that would really rather you didn't, though.

Well actually, I have. 50-70 acceleration on the aero is quite special

Nothing is faster or better than a 330/530 on this forum. You should know that by now!

However a chap at work just bought an M5 for £10k last week. It's obviously older but in beautiful condition and is a BMW worth owning imo. Look at those ;)

My 9-5 Aero [260], ugly as it was, had shockingly quick midrange acceleration and felt considerably faster than a 530i.

You need a properly fast car to 'effortlessly overtake' somebody in any car with circa 220bhp with his foot hard to the carpet, though.

Effortlessly suggests you simply breeze past. Thats going to take a car which, on paper, is much quicker.

I'm not disputing it has better mid range performance - I've never driven one so I've no idea - but I wouldnt have thought it has enough.

Actually leaving another car for dead requires a significant power advantage.

Sorry to derail the thread. What's the deal on the comms pack, i.e. cost, fitting, connectivity, control of the Ipod etc?

Comms pack consists of a 16:9 display, navigation computer, audio module and can also include tv, voice recognition and bluetooth modules.

The 16:9 goes in the dash as you'd expect, but the other modules sit in the boot linked by a new loom which you have to get off your dealer. Unfortunately this means taking up the rear seats, the front passenger seat and various other bits of trim. Took me around 14 hours to do - but this involved taking lots of pictures and faffing around because of rain.

It will cost at least £1,000 to get the navigation and standard audio working. To add tv on top of this will be around £300 as you need a tuner box and an aerial & loom.

My ipod sits in the boot and is connected to an Alpine KCA-420i (£30) and Intravee module (£100). Note however, that the Intravee module is still in Beta stage, so must be bought directly from the guy who is developing them, but this shouldn't be a problem. The iPod implementation works very well with the system - will try and take some pictures of this at some point.

I will get around to writing up a guide for fitting everything.

Don't forget to check the rear subframe mounts (left side specifically)!

Should be ok on a facelift saloon as shown above :)

A grand  i know you get to keep the OEM look, but surely a alpine or pioneer double din touchscreen sat nav would be better?

It would cost more than a grand to buy one of those and get all the heater vent pipes and linkages modified to fit a double DIN unit in an e46. Even when that is done it still doesn't look OEM and the unit always seems to poke out a bit. Also factory navigation helps residuals a lot more than an aftermarket system.

My sat nav retrofit only cost me about 800 quid, although I originally only had a mk3 nav computer which was 100 quid instead of 300+ for a mk4 at the time.

Well it will. The manuals have 275lbs torque compared to the 330/530 220lbs (going by Fox's sig)

Stage 1-5 tune and good bye BMW!
They have 350Nm (258ft.lb) versus the M54B30's 300Nm (222ft.lb). The 9-3/9-5 Aero's weigh more than a 330i. There's really little difference in terms of performance :)
