BMW 335D engine

Not sure who you are mate, or what you think gives you the right to call other people's projects and passions "pointless"

The same thing that allows everyone else in this thread an opinion on what you have mentioned doing - only difference is for some reason you have singled me out. Fun fact not everyone on the internet (or indeed in real life) will agree with everything you plan on doing - I assume you wanted opinions, hence why you posted - you can't just expect everyone's opinions to match yours.

and you sure as hell don't know me, nor do you know where I'm at with this project. So perhaps hold your tongue next time, or at least engage in polite conversation to form those loft opinions of yours.

No I don't know you, but I now know more about you than I needed to. Calling your project "fairly pointless" was polite - and was based purely on the fact all you mentioned was wanting a 340+ bhp diesel TT. Not that you loved diesels or wanted the fastest diesel possible etc. The "pipedream" comment was based on your history i.e. the Z3 not happening, that it was unlikely that this would happen either.

My thing is tuned turbo diesels. I like the power delivery, I like the way they sound (shock horror!) and if you do a little bit of googling for "Fastest 1.9 TDI" or "300bhp TDI" you'll see plenty of people taking the PD110/PD130/PD150 motor, bolting on a GTB2260 and a set of nozzles and having great fun with them in a variety of cars for not a lot of money.

Which is fine - you like diesels. It's not most peoples thing though - seeing Diesels billowing out clouds of black smoke isn't for me.

Whilst having the fastest diesel clearly is an achievement to some (e.g. the below quarter mile times etc), I'd actually rather have a road legal TT that I could enjoy driving on normal roads.

As for the handling of a TT with a diesel engine, Michael Boak races a TT TDI in an autocross series (not sure which) against all types of other cars. He wins fairly consistently and his car handles great!

As far as I understand it, and as far as I can find out, that TT (and most other Rallycross cars), aren't actually anything like the production car. They are a lightweight spaceframe, with panels over the top that resemble a road going car - Hence they handle ridiculously well.

I think you misunderstood my reply, the 335d idea was never going to happen due to the monumental difference in electronics and complexity issues.

I'm actually rather intrigued by the MK1 TT diesel idea, it worked well enough OEM in the Mk2 and Mk3!

You are also right with regards to the weight differences between the 1.8T and the 1.9TDi, yes they are heavier, but not by as much as youd think!

Bit of an odd mentality OP, getting all offended when someone questions your intentions. Now that you've explained why you want to do it, fair play, I wish you all the best. I just think that maybe next time you do something like this, you could communicate your reasoning a bit better instead of attacking everyone who thinks you're nuts ;)

Acme suspended again.... lol.
