BMW 530?

Tbh, I don't like speeding when I'm a passenger and I am sure that I don't want to speed when I can drive myself!

5 Series appeals to me because of the luxury, the style and the fact that you can be a proud 5 series owner.

I class myself as sensible, I don't feel that I would get the urge to give it all it's got at the traffic lights/motorway or country lanes..

I'd rather have a 5 series as a first car, then a 1.1 Corsa.. There is no power in a Corsa, and if I had a Corsa for a few years then upgraded it to a 530 it would such an increase of Power I'd want to abuse it! So I think having a powerful car and learning to respect the power and be careful/sensible with it is the best option in my opinion..

If speed and performance isn't something that interests you why buy and insure a 230bhp car?

And you can't be a proud Focus owner? Everyone on FFOC.co.uk would disagree.

You've no idea as you've not got out on the open road yet..

None of that really makes any sense. Nobody is saying get a Corsa 1.1, there are plenty of cars like the Focus 1.6 which offer more than enough power for a new driver. Learning to respect the power isn't quite THAT simple - by definition, learning includes mistakes. You don't want to make mistakes in powerful RWD cars becuase you end up with almightly big insurance bills.

You've never driven a car - you have NO idea what different power in different cars feel like, you've got no idea what an underpowered car feels like and you've got no idea what a powerful car feels like. Take note of what I've said elsewhere in this thread - a 1.6 litre Focus sized car for example WILL feel like a rocket ship as your first car. It isn't underpowered.

The real world of driving is nothing like the theoretical world of what you think you may or may not do. It's all very well saying IM GONNA BE SO SENSIBLE etc etc - it's different on the roads. I'm not saying you'd get a fast car and suddenly drive it like an idiot, but things can catch you out, etc etc.

How old are you?

I'm sort of half thinking this thread is an elaborate windup with some of the vocabulary being used to be honest..

....snip..

With all due respect mate you dont know how you will end up bahaving behind the wheel. Many people ask for advice on this forum and choose to ignore it, and we have had many cases (myself included) who ignored it, and as a result suffered. I wrote off a £4000 car with no comprehensive cover when i was 19 for example, after ignoring people and convincing myself that i would take it easy in a ~250bhp car. I did for about a month, then i got used to it and found myself doing absolutely stupid speeds and being cocky about it.

Learnt my lesson, and now i am back in a car with that much power again, although this time i have a hell of a lot of driving experience behind me and know how to respect a fast car.

Please take the advice :)

I didn't know they made one, or is that an engine transplant from another car?

I'd be interested to know too, never heard of a 2.5 TT Celica, or any TT engine in the Toyota range.

Suppose this thread is pointless now, so I shall lock it..

If you have any suggestions for a car..

Just email me..

Thanks for everything guys,

Matt.

I'm not judging you, and I'm not a 'wannabe'. I'm just someone who has been where you are, had the same thoughts as you, and I'm also someone who has bitter experience of what happens when you don't respect a 530 :)

When you said you 'Can't drive yet' I assume you'd not driven, which I think is a reasonable assumption to make :)

I gather you have the experience of "Rocket Ship" at speed?

Focus 1.6 or BMW 530? Yes on both counts.

Thanks for the advice, I understand what you are saying and will think very carefully!

Thats all we are doing dude - offering advice becuase we know how it feels but a lot of us have made the mistakes we want to help you avoid making :)

Yeah thats what I was thinking, but thats a 3 litre!

Unless really old ones were 2.5?

I think they did a 2.8 ages ago, don't think it was TT though. Although my car knowledge as been proven to be rather unreliable ;)

Dont think he wants it for the power.

And you can't be a proud Focus owner? Everyone on FFOC.co.uk would disagree.

Im sure the people on the the BMW OC would also be proud.

You've no idea as you've not got out on the open road yet..

are you this mother? im sure he knows himself better than you.

Matt.
Get what you think is best for you, im sure you'll make a good choice, you seem to have your head screwed on just fine.

I was going to be sensible too when I passed my test. Within an hour of driving on my own for the first time I was 5-up wheel spinning out of the rec car park doing 20mph over the limit in a built up area :o

Whilst I'm not sying you'll be a tit like I was I was adament that I would be sensible when I got behind the wheel. I calmed down after my first 70mph spin down a country lane and again when I slid it straight off the road after locking up on a damp cover in the road.

Even if you don't do something sill like that theres still an increased chance of bumping it... or backing it into your mates house... not that I'd do something as stupid as that. *whistles*

DOnt listenz 2 da haterz man.

Lifes too short, get *** the hell u want preferably as fast as humanly possible and enjoy.

He's told us he can't drive. How is he supposed to know his driving habits before he's started driving

I'm going to have to answer that one in the style of Manuel from faulty towers. k.
Driving habits gtfoh...there's a quick self control test he can do online. it's at

Am i a plum with a lead foot ?
