BMW and M Power Owners

Probably clutching at straws with this one as I can't be bothered to sign up to a proper BMW forum at the moment for this question.

I "may" have landed myself a free early E90 335i from a family member (still needs to be discussed further), Something something Sorn, needs mot, dead battery, hasn't been driven at all during covid so will need a service, needs new calipers yadda yadda yadda.

But my actual question and I'm not expecting to find an answer here but never know, Its had the infamous iDrive continuous boot loop issue for a long time now, My intention if I did go for the car was to go with one of those aftermarket android "idrive" screens for some modern features, but after seeing a few videos and realising the new screen connects to the radio end of the audio system, would I still see the boot loop issue with the "new" screen? As i'm not sure what actually causes the issue if its the screen or the actual radio.

Sorry my quote was mainly about the dct is used on sportier cars which I didn't think was the case anymore (for whatever reason).

He's buying a 30k car, the current generation M cars are way out of budget so there seems little point in talking about them. I'm not sure he cares which gearbox is on the £80,000 M4.

The genuinely sporty thing was a joke anyway :p

F30/F31 320ds, what do I need to know? I know absolutely sod all about BMWs; but in my never-ending search of what I want next I spotted a 2015 320d touring, xdrive msport auto I think, for reasonable money but has what I would consider to be high miles (115k). It's replacing my now ancient civic that, at 160k miles, is starting to wear me down on the hour journey to and from work. Expecting 20k miles a year so diesel makes more sense to me. I know the 2015 is pre-LCI (correct me if I'm wrong?) But not entirely sure what the differences entail aside from the N47 becoming a B47? Any major things I should be aware of or to expect maintenance / reliability wise? Not sold on it yet, but it's certainly a contender!

You need to know that the C Class is better. Genuinely - the interior in the F30 is pretty rubbish and finding a nicely specified example is difficult. By contrast the C Class feels like a premium car in far more respects than the 3 Series does and frankly looks like one too. The pre facelift F30 is not a great looking car outside either. If you get the right spec the then the interior tech side of things is best in class by miles as is the gearbox, but IMHO not by enough to make it the better buy.

If your budget is just throwing up 6 figure mileage pre facelift 320d's then I'd consider something like a Skoda Superb anyway, it's probably a better buy than a high mileage ex fleet 3 Series.

Budget can expand beyond pre-facelift, it was just a car I hadn't really considered before. What makes you say the interior is rubbish out of interest? It's worlds apart from what I'm used to previously and looks fine to me! Are there any must have options you'd recommend? I'm erring more towards an estate anyway, and an auto box would be a nice to have, I greatly miss the geartronic in my old S60 D5 and that wasn't even a good auto! I'll certainly take a look at the C class though and see what's what. Cheers Fox :)

The dash in the 3 Series is essentially a larger 1 series dash. By contrast the C Class looks almost like a mini S class inside.

The 3 Series just doesn't feel like a premium car inside in either this or the previous generation, something they've thankfully more than fixed on the current model which is absolutely excellent.

A good 3 Series feels like a small 5 Series, the F30 feels like a big 1 series.
