BMW and M Power Owners

The main concern for me is air suspension - and it's covered under the wear and tear guidelines and possibly beyond. The engine and the rest of the car should be pretty robust.

I'd probably leave it on a 140i, it should be fine, and worst case scenario it shouldn't be too bad for things like suspension. The 7 Series air suspension system is around £2k per shock and the same for the compressor - not that you'd typically ever have to replace them all at once.

I'm expecting it all to be fine, but I'd rather not have to worry about it.
My neighbour's air compressor recently died on their car and it was the best part of £500 for an aftermarket one. Genuine BMW was over a grand! Madness for such a simple component. It didn't even have any CANBUS integration - just basic power and ground.

I'm hoping it'll be OK, the only thing that worries me is the injector issue on the gen 1 B58, where it can quite literally take the engine out.

Mine is a Dec 2018 so I believe I have the 'updated' injectors, though I think they can fail as well :(

I thought having an M140i would be cheap based on what I'd read because it's not a full fat M car but neither is a 20D and those bills sound scary.

A 1 Series is not a 7 Series and I'd not expect it to have similar running costs.

That said, because the 1 Series is not a 7 Series the warranty is fairly inexpensive if you do want to cover yourself.

does anyone bother with the connected package subscription? Just had a thing on my app to say mine will run out next week and they want £120 for a year, I guess I must have had a few months free when I bought the car.

This is quite dependant on the car you have and the version of iDrive it runs.

Personally, I've always maintained the subscription on every car I've had with it because I value what it offers - I use the BMW navigation system and therefore the real-time traffic is essential and I use Spotify in the car which, to use the integrated system, also requires the Connected Drive subscription. It's reasonably good value - it's not changed significantly in price over the 10 years I've been using it.

That said, not all of the functionality requires the subscription - if you login to your account you can see which features you have for unlimited duration and which are included in a subscription.

Since we are on the warranty chat, would we warranty a 2019 330i?

Where is the threshold between worth it and not?

I didn’t bother with the m140i, but I’m weary of a newer, larger more modern car throwing larger bills.

I have warranty with my 2019 330i. I have the breakdown cover included and £100 excess and it costs £554 a year. So far I’ve had to use it to fix some electrical issues, all of my windows stopped opening/,closing and my mirrors wouldn’t open or close.

i'm warrantying my 2018 440i, i paid £359 for the bmw insured warranty with £250 excess for the year
your 330i should be similarly priced, except if you don't already have the bmw insured warranty in which case the first year will be more expensive (+25%?)

as with any warranty products, it's a waste of money if you never use it...
but if you needed to claim on the warranty and did not have it...you'd wish you had it

do i think it's worth it? yes, solely for the peace of mind if anything major goes wrong i'd just shell out £250 instead of £xxxx

It's a personal decision - nobody can tell you whether its worth it or not. The 3 series policy is quite reasonably priced, though.

Is the cost of BMW warranties engine based in the main? For instance, on Mercedes, the warranty for a C63 and an E63 is the same or was when the C63 had the 4l v8. The class of the car wasn’t really relevant despite the obvious differences like the E63 having air suspension, AWD etc.

Having the extended warranty and never having to use it... I see that as a plus.

Pretty much why I renewed this year despite never needing it last year. I blew through 60k miles this year so the price actually went up for the same cover despite not claiming.

My last Service cost me more than that in oil and filters Etc
I dont think you get much for £1700 nowadays with labour rates too
 What are they making the oil and the paper oil filters out of, gold?

The stupid thing is, the filters are probably shared with other cars and probably arent M specific... M tax at it's finest!
I am resisting the urge to compare part numbers on realoem.com
Even if they are unique to that engine, that is still ridiculous to charge you that. Did they claim it had to be done by a mastertech too, so was more expensive per hour?

It's been a couple of months since I bought my M340i so here are some pics alongside my Cayman S and @DB_SamX's M240i :

Stock? Or you running a tune on it? I'm a bit disappointed, I couldn't find a car built before 06/2020 in a decent condition...

Completely stock. I'd like to make some cosmetic changes over time. I don't like the black alloys and would love if I could swap for the cerium grey ones. Maybe some M Performance parts but it looks smart as is.
