BMW Bikes

A generalisation:

BMW = pipe n slippers, good bikes none the less
Triumph = how much oil?
Anything Italian = dodgy electrics

Roadstery reliability and exclusivity: Honda CB1000R. Tasty.

Mcn reader lol ?

Have 2 mates with bmw's both under 25
More scare stories than anything else ... 1-2 had issues
Maybe 10 years ago but not now . And tbh if u had half a clue Honda are renowned for having dodgy coils/cdis/regulators .

But i will agree the cb1000r is a lovely bike. But they detuned it to much (109 at back wheel) its not much quicker than a good 600 . If the had not cut its balls off i would have bought one ..

Thats why I said 'a generalisation'.

- I personally like some of the BMW range...
- I own a Triumph as does my dad, they get through a bit more oil than other bikes but not much really.
- I know two guys with Milles, a guy with a Capornard, a guy with a 1098 all fairly new bikes, all have had electrical problems.
- I've owned 2 different Hondas, both were 20 years old + and not one electrical problem...

So obviously I don't have half a clue. ;)

Looked at the Rockster but didn't have the road presence as the GS and Tiger had. Tiger lost out due to its front forks diving under heavy braking(even worse 2up) so went for the GS and never regretted it.

the only problem with them is the comsuption of oil that they use, got to make sure you check (was it bike mag i think use bike ran out of oil and seized?), 1 litre of oil every 1000's miles is ok in the hand book for them

My 1150GS used a little oil when it was running in but doesn't use a drop now. Know a few others with the 1150GS's and there's are the same.

Where did you get 1Ltr every 1k miles bit from?

its in the handbook. both the R series bikes ive had used oil for the first few thousand miles. Never used a drop after 12k.

If you run the Triumph in properly it won't use much oil.
Most of the people who complain about oil useage either have thrashed it from new or sat at a constant RPM for 500 miles.
Saying that though, all bikes use a bit. My RSV used about 0.5L/1000miles which is fine.
