BMW Service...

So i'm back! Things turned out to be er... much smoother than I expected it to be.

I got there and the same service advisor (he's a complete **** btw) said 'so.. BMW have decided to offer some goodwill... so it's just the MOT to be settled now'.. £54.85 paid, keys handed over.
Don't know what happened after I got off the phone to the service advisor, he must have remembered how badly I bitched last time when they tried to charge me £25 for a loan car so this time decided to do something about it in case I throw a massive bitch fit again? :p

Interior rattling noises are still there - I just have to live with it... it's been with BMW 3 times now and still not sorted, I just can't be bothered anymore...
Metal clunking - fixed
Washer jets - fixed (+ free screenwash put in :D)
Brake squeal - I heard a tiny squeal still, but I can live with that

This is the Cooper Cobham dealers... I would never recommend anyone to go there.. They are rude, expensive and ignorant.

so they gave you an MOT and changed your screenwash and wanted to charge you £559 for the privilege lol

You couldn't write it.

Glad you got it sorted

I could have told you where all the rattles were coming from for free, but if I said where, it might annoy the OP and TBL will be posting in General Discussion calling me a child with no father.

Seeing that OP has had things sorted out why don't you impart some of your knowledge?

Rightttt.....so BMW just let go of £500 odd quid out of "goodwill" did they? If they were at all confident that it was legitimate work they wouldn't have just removed the whole bill like that.

Definitely a case of '**** we've been rumbled, drop the charges'.

Bit obvious as to what I'm getting at, begins with d, rhymes with weasel.

Rattle - Offer to go out with a technician. Seriously, I don't know why service advisers don't arrange this the first time a car comes back with the customer complaining about a recurring rattle. If we can't hear the rattle is not because we're thick or stupid, it is just because we can't hear it. Actually explaining what the noise is like, where exactly it is coming from and when it happens to a technician is far more useful than him reading something like "NSR Interior Rattle" on a jobcard.

Brake squeal - What exactly did they do/replace?

Listen carefully son, what have i told you about drugs :D

Hey, a man has got to defend his noble profession ;).

£500 is a drop in the ocean compared to some goodwill claims!

It took them three visits to try and sort out a rattle from the passenger door and the tailgate on what was then a very recent E61. There was something strange about that dealership and technical knowledge wasn't one of their finer points. Needless to say I never went back to them.

Anyway I’m glad that you’re sorted out. :)

except it should be covered under warranty.

The only excuse for charging would be if it was something that wasn't covered under warranty.
The rattles are not covered under the AUC warranty, but is covered on the standard manufacturers 3 year warranty. The standard warranty on my car expired in August but I have AUC warranty up until next month. However... I took my car in for them to fix the rattles in May when it was still under the standard warranty, it was fine for a month then the rattles got worse so I took it back.. then they said it's been too long since I had it looked at, so it's no longer covered under warranty.

Oh and my MOT certificate had the wrong anniversary date... should expire 4th Jan 2012, but instead it expires 29th Dec 2011. They are getting the certificate re-printed and will post the correct one to me. Cooper Cobham are a useless bunch

I've always gone out with a technician to demonstrate the problems and the technician was clear about what the issues were. I even asked the technician what would be covered by warranty, and he was so sure that the drive sharft and washer jets were covered but the brake squeal and rattles weren't.

I don't know what they've done about the brake squeal.. They didn't mention anything about it and I didn't bother asking.. The invoice I have only shows the charge for the MOT.

So instead of maintaining the MOT expiry date, they've also cocked that up. What a great place. They wanted over £500 from you and the interior still rattles and the brakes aren't completely squeak free.

Lets not do the whole 'trash a business' thing when we've only one side of the story. Although I fully suspect that the way MisCheif has told it is exactly what happened but is it really worth doing the lame 'post the address 100 times so its on google' thing?

At the end of the day she wasn't ripped off and was only charged for the MOT, so it ended fine.

I have had one experience with Cooper Cobham myself. They screwed up a bit (attached plates on to a car which I'd never asked them to attach it to), but didn't charge me for it.

They picked up and delivered the car back to me at work, which was nice of them.

Glad MisChief has had this sorted amicably, and , I'd imagine the next time she goes (if she ever does again!) she could (and, imo should) expect the red carpet treatment.

Although I suspect she'll find a different stealer, after an experience like that, frankly, I don't blame her.

Joshy is bang on with what he is saying, send a tech out with the customer for 10 mins to identify the rattle - it could save hours of fiddling etc working on the "wrong" rattle!

The sooner SA's & SM's realise this, the better!

I think that this should be stamped out on the forum full stop. Sure if someone has a bad experience then they should be free to talk about it but trying to spam google with constant posting of the business details is a bit stupid.

I'm sure if OCUK got slated in such a way Spie would be steaming from his ears and go about making sure it was removed. If I owned a forum that was linked to my business I would make sure it was a suspend able offence to trash spam.

I'm sure if you was ripped off or attempted to be ripped off by a company, you would want to slate them where possible.
End of the day no one likes to be ripped off, especially by main dealers, who would have ripped her off if she didn't kick off, not only that, they only fixed half the faults.
