BMW Service...

bmw

This sounds familiar I hope you asked for a name when you first spoke to the person who advised you that they would advise you of the costs before starting any repairs.I suspect they will try to fob you off with the person you spoke to no longer works here or has just started.hold your ground and try to reach a compromise

I'm sure if OCUK got slated in such a way Spie would be steaming from his ears and go about making sure it was removed. If I owned a forum that was linked to my business I would make sure it was a suspend able offence to trash spam.

Once the info is out there, I'd guess theres not too much you can do about it.

Theres plenty of bad press about OC/UK out there, nature of the beast in internet based retail!

I would imagine that most people would go by personal experience rather than somebody elses (no offence MisChief!) one sided experience posted on an internet forum.

I'd be interested to hear Spies thoughts on this though, sure, I doubt he would like it, especially if it were unjustified.

The plus side is all the positive comments are out there to read along with the bad.... ;)

I'm sure if you was ripped off or attempted to be ripped off by a company, you would want to slate them where possible.
End of the day no one likes to be ripped off, especially by main dealers, who would have ripped her off if she didn't kick off, not only that, they only fixed half the faults.

I'm not saying that people shouldn't feel free to say what they like, what I am saying is that I think it is daft that the rest of the forum then goes on a spam fest where the only objective is to damage the companies reputation on the basis of a single forum post from someone they probably don't even know.

Lets face it, forums aren't exactly the best place for objective views and getting the whole story at the best of times.

This is the Cooper Cobham dealers... I would never recommend anyone to go there.. They are rude, expensive and ignorant.

I gave them terrible feedback when BMW called me following a service. If it's any consolation they are probably the best of the Cooper dealers; I can't describe Surbiton and Banstead on here using anything but starred out words.

If I want Dealer service now I go to Vines in Guildford, although they have also been known to try it on.

Oh I never knew there was a service centre in Guildford! I will probably try Barons Farnborough next - I've only been there once to get a tyre replaced and the tyre specialist there was helpful and honest and offered a price match, but I'm not sure what the rest of their services will be like.

I gave Cobham 3 chances to provide me a good service.. There won't be a 4th time I think. Sometimes I do wonder if these dealers treat you differently based on what car you have.. Mine being a 118d, they probably don't care if they lose my business. At least that's the attitude they're giving me anyway.

Dosent matter what car you got, ****ers are ****ers.

I've used BMW dealers for many years and luckily mostly had good experiences although local dealer over recent years seem to forget things easily (no returned calls, ordered parts not ordered).

The £121 charge for cleaning out the washer bottle made me chuckle, it's a job ANYONE can do with a few basic tools. Probably 30min job at home worse case.
Unfortunately these days it's all down to labour charges. Worth doing as much as you can yourself and when things start going wrong it's possibly time to sell and trade up, or try to find a good independent but those are hard to find also - 'good' ones. In fact I've had worse experiences with the so-called cheaper independent places whom I've reluctantly tried in the past.

Good luck sorting it. I usually tell my dealer to jsut do all the work necessary but that's with me usually already aware of anything that needs doing beforehand.

You see I am a dealers worse nightmare when a car has warranty. I try to get as much as possible out of them. :D

But in all fairness Mitsubishi have never tried to charge me anything other than what I expected and so far any warranty work has been sorted.

I managed to get a brand new set of wheels out of them as a couple of them had bubbling on the inside of the wheel, the dealer said we don't cover it if its on the inside, my response was thats corrosion which warranty covers, so they said OK we shall take some photos and send off to HQ. 2 weeks later 4 brand new wheels, they swap my tyres over, all done no charge. :)

It goes in end of this week for its new AYC pump, which is a big job but will certainly help with re-sell value when people see its got a new one.

Also paint is flicking off on arch, no doubt due to stone chipping but I've told them I want it resprayed under warranty as its clearly and fault with the paint, they took photos, so just gotta see what outcome is but will be pushing for them to do it under warranty.

So my advice always stamp your feet never pay if car is under warranty. Even if its out of warranty sale of good act actually covers you for several years, so basically ask because if you don't ask you don't get. :)

Vines in Guildford have been good to a friend of mine with an e46, seemed very helpful with getting me a few cars to test drive as well.

No personal experience with the service department though.

That's down to a helpful dealer more than anything.

From what I've been told the warranty system works on the dealers doing something, then claiming it back from the manufacturer afterwards. When they say "we need to run it by HQ first" they are checking before they submit the paperwork it will be covered. Normally the paperwork is submitted and the claim put in after you've gone. So they'll only let you book in stuff without checking they are 100 % sure will get approved.

So at least they are asking for you, and not attempting to get you pay, as happened with me and Vauxhall.

It Didn't matter who i complained to or how much i complained, it wasn't covered was their response. No offer to check with Vauxhall, just a flat "it's not covered" even when i asked to speak to the service manager.

Stupid thing is, i went directly to Vauxhall who over ruled the dealer and approved the work to be done under warranty anyway. So had my Vauxhall dealer followed the same path as your Mitsubishi dealer, i'd still have had the same result, but been a lot less hacked off and glowing with praise for Vauxhall instead.

So.... almost two months later, I am STILL dealing with BMW to try and get things sorted on my car

I've been to BMW 8 times in the past 4 weeks.. But this is only to sort out two problems - brakes squeaking and interior rattles. Both very minor things.

After the really bad service I received in the new year, BMW sent me a customer feedback form - and I of course, gave them my honest feedback :D So Cooper Cobham called me back and apologised and said they would fix the interior rattling noises free of charge. This time I received first class treatment

Now the brakes... I took my car to Barons Farnborough 3 times to get the brake squeaks sorted, but they still haven't managed to get rid of the noise. The 1st time they said the brake sensors were making the noise so they ground down the sensor. 2nd time they said the brake disc shield was rubbing on the disc, so they've adjusted the shield. 3rd time, they said they checked everything and gave the brake pads a wash and greased them but the noise is still there and don't know what's wrong.

The service advisor didn't know what to do next, so he said he'll get his colleague to call me on Monday to talk through it. I mean... seriously... BMW can't fix brake squeaks?? It's not worn out pads either, I still have 6-7mm left on them. What do you guys think it might be???

I think they'll probably know what needs to be changed next - A set of pads and discs. Problem is that warranty really isn't going to want to pay for those, and the Dealer knows it.

The amount of life left in the pads and discs to an extent is irrelevant. Good pads and discs and squeal like pigs if they've glazed over.

Try using the brakes a bit harder?

My e39's brakes had a bit of a squeak when I first got it - 14 years of my OAP parent running it! - he often compalined that they were noisy.

A few months & miles into my ownership, they are quiet now.

I suppose I'm firmer on the brakes than he was?

Worth a shot? :)

Is it/Are they squeaking when applying mild pressure to the pedal? When i replaced my front pads with EBC Greenstuffs I had no squeaking at all, then when I replaced the fronts I had a mild squeak until they were bedded in a bit, this took several hundred miles of driving at least but now they're like normal again. Just be a little more heavy with the brakes for a while if you want to speed things up I guess.

Also, I didn't think they could grind down the sensors? On the e46 there are 2 sensors and they are quite fragile too and there's not much to grind either because if they were making the noise then the contact inside the head would have been made and your dash would tell you you need to check the pads as it thinks they're low!

Unless it's different on a 1 series :p
