Anyone got this?

If so, how do you use your iPod with it? The iPod plugs in and I can play stuff through it fine so it works but the navigation seems completely bizarre, a pile of jumbled up folders and nowhere can I find my playlists or anything.

Anyone had more luck?

shud work as a normal USB drive. you shoudl be able to browse thruough by artist, album and of course your saved playlists. not sure how you could be having problems? your music labelled correctly track numbers etc???

iPod doesn't work as normal mass storage, as it uses its own proprietory library and structure etc.

Surely its designed to just play MP3s of a USB pen drive or something

It's a 59 with no I-Drive and no hard drive - I'm just trying to play the Ipod through the USB interface. It works sort of - I can select USB and it plays music from my Ipod but it appears to browse it as if its a portable hard drive and doesn't seem to find any playlists? Does it work fully with the ipod or is it just treating it like an external storage device?

oh right in that case i guess so. i know on the idrive its fully compatible

It sounds like it's literally just mounting the iPod's HDD. I think option 6FL is just for a USB interface and isn't an iPod interface.

That's the problem. The Ipod does work as a normal mass storage disk drive but the way Itunes stores music on it is pretty confusing.

You need to have Ipod certified/compatible hardware (not mass storage) for it to be controlled like a "dock" and browse by playlist, artist, album, etc..

no.

have u got it?

My point was, unless its specifically supports the iPod, you aren't going to get the full (if any?) functionality.

I remember having a lot of trouble getting music onto my iPhone under linux, for the fact that you can't just drop music on it and go.

On the E60 they do sell an ipod adapter lead for the 6FL USB/Audio interface. Its a bit clunky though and not a very popular way of connecting ipods, I believe the audio runs through the audio jack and the USB is just used to control the ipod. Most just use a USB stick or disk with the 6FL from what i have read about it.

Just put your music on a usb stick as a copy of the music folders on your PC.

This is what I have done, it means I can leave a £10 USB stick plugged into the car all the time rather than messing about with my iPhone.

Surely most cars/stereos with USB interfaces should understand mass storage and iPod-ese? Sounds like this one is only understanding the former

Of course, if it's a temporary measure (I assume you haven't bought a 320D!) and youve got enough free space on the ipod, you could copy a load of properly structured music folders into the storage part of the ipod....

You've got the USB interface, not the ipod one. Therefore, USB sticks with folders / tracks on is where it's going to end being simple.

I was in an E60 last week with the ipod interface, worked very well using the idrive system, could use it as you would on ipod.
